Here's the best part: The girl's mother and sisters go to my church. They are some of the first people we met when we moved here. Her younger sister, who is 5, is my 5-year-old's best friend.

P.S. Please don't ask what a 17-year-old was doing living with her boyfriend; I don't know.

Sorry to hear that DE. That's going to be tough on your little one.

Sorry to hear this DE. Hope her family is getting the support they need right now. The loss of a child is not something a family should have to go through.

I find it interesting that you chose to hit on the fact that he was illegal immigrant.

I agree its a tragedy but the why highlight his immigration status. Its not like we don't have abusers, murders etc who are natives.

If we knew this guy was illegal long enough to be in the juvie system, why is he still here?

Did you click on the link and read the article? He is an illegal immigrant. Granted we have plenty of citizens that are abusers, murders (sic), etc., however this particular person is illegal and has an extensive juvenile record. As Rorinthas said..."why is he still here?"

There's a lot of problems with this, not the least of which is a 17-year old girl was allowed to live with (1) anyone, (2) a 23-year old, (3) an illegal, (4) an individual with a checkered past.

A lot of people have dropped the ball here. Very sad.

Gee, you think maybe it's because we don't need Mexico's criminals in addition to our own?

I have news for you. Any time you hear about a serious crime down here on the news, there's better than 50/50 chances that it will be an illegal immigrant doing it.

Just got back from the viewing. That was wonderful. Always great to see a kid lying there in a casket, especially when one of your own kids is only a little older. My wife is going to the funeral tomorrow; unfortunately I have to work.

I'm told that 17 year olds can legally move out in Texas. Haven't had time to research that yet, but it would explain the living arrangements.
