Being a tight *** lately due to various reasons, I was looking around for some free MMOs to pass the time and dull my withdrawal from gaming. I came across a Chinese/US company called Perfect World.

Now most of my experiences with Chinese gaming companies have been fairly bad, as they tend to have absolutely no customer service. However after trying their "forsaken world" game, I found that due to the obvious exchange rate and funding advantages of the western world, this company have decent customer support with passable English.

Fast forward to their latest game, Blacklight Retribution. This is something of a counter strike on crack, with exp. The level of your character does not limit your ability to kill, however limits the type of weapon you’re able to buy and use.

During the game a kill score system ensures every game starts off on equal grounds. . Each time you hit or kill an opposition, you acquire these kill points. E.g. a mech suit requires 1200 kill points to use. The use of RL money is only to purchase weapons ahead of your level (and some pretty cool looking money only graphic customisation). However due to the implementation of kill points, you are still assured that battles are always started equal.

This is a must try for those who enjoyed the original counter strike.

Man, I can't wait for Planetside 2 to go lay the smack down on what "MMOFPS" means. ;)

Still, if I liked modern-paced FPS, that looks like it might be a slick match-based multiplayer game.

Original Blacklight was okay, but I liked its coop better than competitive.

The beta's open now. I don't think I see a cooperative mode, which saddens me. I get more of a co-op boner than a shooting-everyone-dead boner for these sorts of things.

Also, I can tell when I'm procrastinating, because I see my name as the latest post in the first 4 threads *facepalm*
