And the conspiracy theorist continue to provide links/ideas to add to the "indoctrination" theory.

I didn't get past #5 before I added Bioware to my boycotted developer list. Seriously ... if you guys can't see they sold out, and that they don't give a **** about their customers at all anymore ... you're just baseless fanboiz and fangrrlz.

Well Khross, the thing is, 99.9% of the game is some of the best **** I've ever played. It is the only game I've ever played that I would give a 10 to if not for its ending.

Yes, the ending is a huge punch in the nuts and unacceptable bullshit, but that doesn't completely diminish the value of the rest of the game. It's a fantastic game for the most part and the journey through the series is absolutely amazing. There is nothing else out there that makes you feel anywhere near as connected and involved.

It's a shame that it's all tarnished by throwing all of that out the window with the ending and making none of what you did matter, but they can still fix it. If they don't, well, **** em. But there's still hope that they get themselves out of this mess.

No, they can't fix it, because they put a "Click to Proceed" screen in between the cutscene and the credits that says ...

"If you don't like it, give us more money."

There is no such thing there. That's a message after the credits and Stargazer scene where it puts you back before one of the final assaults that says more stuff is coming. It is not between the final cutscene and credits. But you can patch endings into different **** as proven by Fallout 3.

There is no such thing there. Anyone saying there is is lying to you. The only clickthrough is after the Credits and after Buzz Aldrin's comment, and that's pretty much "Yeah, you finished the game - now you can dick around and do stuff you missed, or play through the inevitable DLC".

So you're saying that Arafys's link is lying and that there's no screen in the ending that's plugging DLC? Cause I'm having trouble believing they'd fabricate a screenshot for that.

It's not in the ending, it's when it puts you back to a playable point in the game prior to the Point of No Return. There's a difference.

That requires 0 mention of future DLC.

I don't see what's so bad about saying, "You can keep playing to build your legend through further gameplay and DLC."

It doesn't say, "Lolz u missed out on Prothean lore. Go buy From Ashes to experience the rest of the game!" You're getting your metaphorical panties in a bunch here. There's no marketplace link to buy the content, they don't suggest anything, they just let you know what's available to you.

My panties aren't in a bunch ... I've played Dragon Age; I've played most of Mass Effect 1 (which I tabled for the series to be complete); I've played The Old Republic. I know enough, now, about Bioware post-EA buyout that ...

a. The quality of their games has taken a serious **** in really important areas.

b. EA's monetization model is negatively affecting Bioware's products.

c. Quality Assurance has gone bad ...

Sean posted a link from the Game's Director and Producer in which the guy states the shitty ending was intentional.

And Mass Effect 3 doesn't end the game or narrative appropriately. Given the three things above, as demonstrated by the problems in the titles I've mentioned, I can safely say ...

I won't buy another Bioware product, because they are no longer Bioware.

Disagree. ME3 is head and shoulders above 1 and 2 in every way except the last 5 minutes. A different ending option would cement Mass Effect as the greatest game franchise ever made.

You haven't even made it through part 1 and here you are, two games later, talking about a lack of quality? Play the games.

Have to agree with Lenas. ME3 is pretty much better than ME1/ME2 in every way up until the end. It's really a shame.

I truly hope they can redeem themselves with a fix to the ending via DLC.

That statement says nothing about the overall quality of a given game; it says something about the quality of specific areas of their games. And it's not inclusive of all really important areas ...

You're right, and 5 minutes at the end of my 100+ hour investment does nothing to tarnish the rest of the experience. Thanks, Khross, you've opened my eyes! It really is the best franchise ever made.

Oh, you mean how they repeated the exact same mistake they made with DAO's ending sequence? Or the fact that there countless continuity errors between 2 and 3 and 1 and 3 in ME? Or that Bioware's started recycling, quit literally, characters from ME in other games; because, honestly, for the life of me ...

I can't figure out where all these **** Krogan on Coruscant come from unless they're just really badly drawn Gundarks.

Sean and I spent 30 minutes arguing over the canon resolution to DAO, because Witch Hunter retcons a physical media release expansion.

It's too bad you're trying to defend a game I'm not even critiquing instead of addressing the actual problem: EA is bad for Bioware. You're too busy thinking Mass Effect is awesome to actually listen, Lenas.

What you think you're saying: "EA has been bad for Bioware"

What we're hearing: "Mass Effect is **** and you should feel bad for liking it"

Khross, you're the one looking past the important aspects of the game(s). Not surprising considering you haven't finished a single one of them. You hide behind the facade that it's really about Bioware and their corruption from EA, but the end result is that you end up criticizing things you haven't even experienced.

The choices and consequences of your actions, and the fact that they span a trilogy is what's important. You can say the choices don't matter in the long run, and I'd agree given the ending, but they do matter during the short-run. They mattered while I was playing. They would matter 100% to someone in a world without internet spoilers and people talking **** on forums/twitter/facebook distorting opinions.

I'm aware of all the problems that the games have. I've played them all multiple times. My point is (and has always been) that Mass Effect, taken as a whole, has no equal in gaming today.

Khross hasn't even played through the games and has no clue what he's talking about. We can ignore him now.

Already seen that, and it's factored into my criticism of the publisher and the developer post buyout.

Tycho chimes in:
Quote:
You should probably leave if you haven’t beaten Mass Effect. No, don’t read anymore. People got mad at us for “spoiling” events that happened in Mass Effect 2, and I don’t have time for that kind of ****, so if you have a thpoiler allergy you need to G the FO.

To make a long story short, Gabriel likes his ending (green) and I’m fine with my ending (blue) but I understand how someone could feel cheated - especially if they got the worst ending, or if they aren’t in the habit of reading classic science fiction.

There’s a countercharge now, in response to anger about the endings, that describes Bioware’s output as sacrosanct in some way - beyond criticism. This is fundamentally batshit, or as noted “speculative fiction” author Harlan Ellison might say, ****. I’m fine with the ending, which to my mind started as soon as I ran the executable - the whole game is denouement - but I revolt against the idea of Authorial Divinity almost at the molecular level. I bet Ken Levine would take a redo on Bioshock, for example. To hear them tell it, there is plenty about Deus Ex: Human Revolution the developer would change. Fallout’s “Broken Steel” DLC actually does modify the ending considerably. There’s also a school of thought that says, hey, maybe these are not (strictly speaking) real endings anyway, and I’m always down for a rabbit hole.

They’re very much endings of the Hard Sci-Fi school: work predicated to a certain extent on Interesting Answers but far, far more of a piece with Interesting Questions. The Interesting Question posed here is: what next? We know this is the question, because regardless of any particulars, the very structure of Galactic society is destroyed every time. And the alliance you’ve jammed together with gum, glue, and tape is now sitting in the equivalent of a ten by ten room, all of them armed to the teeth. We know that something survives, and lives well - “the Shepard” has passed into legend, and The Stargazer talks about interstellar travel as though it had all the complexity of crossing the street. But what next?

That is precisely the kind of question I like.
