According to Google, you are only the second person ever in the universe to ask this question. :)

You sure he wasn't also the first, posting under a different username?

With regards to the original question, and nomination, I must point out that "We Built this City" was recorded by Starship and not Jefferson Starship. This either invalidates the question in it's entirety or sets the precedent that any song recorded by the band in any of it's incarnations is fair game, in which case I nominate "White Rabbit"

Fourth'd

Edit:

I also nominate it as the song with both the best and the worst covers ever.

Side tangent, I did like the usage of White Rabbit in the Warehouse 13 episode "duped", the one with Lewis Carroll's magic mirror.

OK, that's a cool list - I would like to hear the Enon version. But ... George Benson?? Really can't wrap my head around that one.

Also used well in a third-season Supernatural episode.

I haven't heard that song in forever, didn't know they sung it, so will vote that one. Though I've always liked "I Didn't Mean To Stay All Night" for some reason. Thought that was just from "Starship", so does that count? Am I rambling again?

Now I have a desire to find all the songs I like with the word white in them.

Elmo, I'd ask to punch your man-card, but I'm afraid it's been punched so many times there's nothing left.

White Rabbit is good. But the cover by the Blue Man group is better.

When considering "hit" singles by any popular artist...ever, it's hard to imagine a worse song than We Built This City. Which is not to say such a debacle does not exist. I am just hard pressed to think of what it might be. I'd rather hear Sara. Maybe.

That being said I do like White Rabbit & Jane. I'm not sure why I like Jane as it's not the most original song ever, but /shrug.

and therein lies the reason your man-card keeps getting threatened.

Technically, White Rabbit was by Jefferson Airplane. Starship is a spin-off group. The best Starship tune by time on charts and sales in general is probably Elmo's choice.

I'd add jamming icepicks into my ears, but I still want to listen to good bands! That's sorta like asking "What's the best Mountain song" or others that I just don't want to think about, let alone get stuck in my head. Ohhhh, so that was Elmo's plan! For us to get bad tunes stuck in our heads. Ebil! =P

Actually, I believe "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" performed better on the charts and both the original album sales as well as the Mannequin soundtrack should be considered.
And with regards to the original question, that of the best Jefferson Starship song, "No Way Out" seems to have been the best performer although I personally prefer "Find Your Way Back".
