Just got my first speeding ticket. I just missed the limit change from 40 to 25.

So $141, what looks to be 3 points later...

*headdesk*

But if I went 30 years without a ticket, hopefully that means I can manage the next 12 months so the pts go away.

Mentioned to my mom, and she's telling me to fight it. Um, no. If I was speeding, I'm not going to lie about it.

Best part: he pulled over me and one other. I saw flashing lights two cars back, pulled off to let him pass, he pulled over the woman behind me, then waved me over too.

Okay, I don't mean to be unsupportive... but that's kind of a funny story.

In a more commiserating/supportive vein, though.. 40 straight to 25!? That's exploitation!

I was actually amused by that. Yay for efficiency!

We have a lot of arbitrary 25's around here. My mistake, though. Totally. My intent is not to try to deflect blame. I screwed up.

Municipalities do that on purpose to raise revenues. You'll notice that's where all the speed traps are.

That said, go to court. You're likely to have the ticket thrown out because of your good driving record.

Already paid it. I'm not going to go to court to fight it if I did it.

Your choice. Although its not fighting it insomuch as asking for leniency.

True. But it's too late.

You just got it today and already paid it? How does that work?

We get tickets out here and have to wait something like 6 weeks before we go to court or whatever.

You didn't get the option for traffic school to remove the points?

You pay electronically or mail in the check. If you aren't going to fight it, you don't have to wait for anything.

^ Same here. There are exceptions for some violations though that you cannot waive a court appearance on. I think for example DUIs.

Yeah, that's because a DUI isn't a moving violation. It's a criminal offense. You can't just mail a check to the courthouse for a rape case either.

You don't have to do traffic school until 6 pts or more. We have 10 days to plead.

There was a stretch of road in NJ, visiting a relative, we counted thirteen speed changes in a 8 mile stretch of the same road, 35 to 15 and all points inbetween.

I feel very dumb. I went back, and there were at least 4 signs on that stretch of road for the 25 mph limit. I was on autopilot and focused on picking up my daughter on time. Just didn't pay attention because my speed didn't feel excessive for the road.
