These little shits make a good case for it. Few things actually move me, but the **** abuse these middle schoolers are thowing at an elderly woman really angers me. I can not immagine what sort of punishement my parents would have delivered had I acted in that fashion at that age, granted it would not have been necessary because they raised me not to be like that. Sadly I feel like this is the first signs of the internet culture comming live.

Well that was an unfortunate way for me to start my day.

And many kids who are cruel don't really get disciplined and become adults who are cruel, largely because most people are cowardly, sycophantic, pack-mentality-following, amoral twats.

Haven't watched the video, but read the story.

IF (big IF) my children ever participate in something even remotely like this (they'll know better), the will NOT get away with such behavior. Discipline will be swift and just.

The parents of these kids should be horribly ashamed.

I read a headline or two but I won't read the article or watch the video because I would cry, and I hate crying.
I did hear that people gave her $60k in donations though.

And for the record, if any of my kids participated in that sort of abuse, I would beat the tar out of them, take away every nice thing they have, and commit them to community service and making amends to the person they abused.

Ah mob behavior. Everyone thinks they'd 'never do that sort of thing' until they do.

I agree the behavior is despicable, but adults do this sort of thing too. Its easy to dismiss them as 'bad apples' etc. but the reality as demonstrated by Milgram, the Stanford Prison experiment,or even Hofling Hospital Experiment demonstrate that people are falsely confident about their own ability to resist social pressures to behave a particular way, even if they know it to be wrong.

This doesn't end in middle school, sadly. In college I had a professor who was a Vietnam veteran with pretty obvious PTSD, and many of the students chose to amuse themselves by making loud noises and watching him freak the **** out every time.

You're comparing a bunch of middle school kids to the adults in these studies?

Absolutely. Both examples of behavior they knew to be wrong, but given some sort of social pressure. (in the experimental cases, its largely about authority, instead of peers, but its still classic mob behavior.) A perception that their behavior is excused or normal, tends to shatter people's sense of right & wrong.

Choose your "friends" wisely...

I read the articles but I won't watch the videos. Who needs that kind of deja vu? How many decades have passed since I went through that kind of sh*t, yet an article like that brings it all back like a slam to the face.

I had a talk with my kids when they were at that age about bullying. They were aghast that I even had to ask, but I did have to make sure. Would they have been punished if I found out they were bullying? Oh hell yeah.

The Milgram experiments are not examples of mob behavior.

The fact that the bus requires a monitor in addition to the driver in the first place speaks volumes. Children have the system figured out. Look at the one kid "sitting back, waiting for his punishment." He's going to take his punishment, then spend the rest of his school career chortling with glee that he made it onto YouTube.

I read this as "physical punishment - children" as in children are a form of physical punishment.

Whats wrong the the pools? I think they look awesome.

Nothing's *wrong* with them (though, it is kind of morbid to make the memorial for an attack a hole in the ground), but I was posting more out of surprise that anything had been decided on/completed with little enough fanfare that it completely escaped my notice.
