Though, I think shotguns weren't in the E3 build yet (most of the Nanite Systems weaponry are last in line to get models), and there wasn't a lot of footage from the perspective of medics, so I suppose there wouldn't be anything to strike your primary interest, anyways.

But, oh, the Vanguards. And the Liberators. Plenty of glorious awesome there. I'm drooling over the Gauss; it looks like it's properly boss again.

Ooh. Nabbed MMORPG.com's Best in Show, and Massively's MMO of the Show, too. Good thing there won't be a box, it'd be getting hard to fit all the accolades onto it.

So, apparently some goons figured out you could modify the DCUO launcher's .ini file to download the E3 client. Server's since been shut down and that hole in the launcher patched.

But if you look around, you'll probably start seeing somemined data. Treat much of it as suspect/incomplete, yadda yadda.

Most interesting stuff from the leak is probably the soundtrack. I'm not sure whether the YouTube uploads of it will get taken down, so I won't embed them here, but simple searches should find them for each empire. Apparently, it's also floating around as a torrent, which I haven't pursued.

My enthusiasm is quickly trumped by my impatience. I don't think I can really care more until the beta comes out, and I am allowed to get my grubby fingers all over it, soiling the aspects of gameplay I find most favorable, whilst leaving pristine those that require improvement. It is a good kind of filth, though; it is the kind of filth that you find on a children's toy that's seen some use. A brilliantly shining area of untouched gameplay also stands out more.

This is mostly just a long, roundabout way of saying I hope they listen to players during the beta. I'm particularly concerned about squishiness of tanks.

Also, a quick addendum -- it appears the tracks mined from the E3 client are sythesized placeholders, not the final, recorded productions.

By midnight tomorrow night, Sony Online Entertainment will have reactivated all past Planetside accounts with an active subscription at any point in their history, and give them 30 days of free playtime.

This is to support a community-instigated "Planetside Day" event on the 1st of July, this Sunday.

If you've gotten that far, you probably have the right thing. They said it should be gone (that is, the free time should be credited to accounts) by the end of the day tomorrow.

Is this an old launchpad, or a freshly downloaded one? I was getting the same thing, and apparently they changed their launchpad recently and the old one doesn't self-update or something.

I redownloaded the launchpad, and it works again.

After these were mined from the leaked E3 client, it was pointed out by the developers that these are placeholder sythesized mock-ups (and that the synth guitar is the "worst" synth instrument, so the NC tracks suffer most in presentation in their mock-up stages), and all the final versions (well, with the exception of the electronica-styled Vanu music) will be performed on live instruments, including the Seattle Philharmonic for the orchestral stuff.

So, there was a press embargo on the community day events last week, I guess. It's been lifted, so there ought to be a bunch of coverage today. Planetside Universe has a collection of a bunch of beta screenshots that include some pretty stunning stuff worth checking out.

Also, Sony Online Entertainment released a short teaser for the cinematic trailer that's coming next week.



I don't personally really go in for cinematic trailers for games much; I'd rather see stuff that's representative of gameplay than a bunch of CGI of stuff you'll never do in the game. But as far as they go, this looks like next week might have something nice to look at for folks who do enjoy them. I do have to admit, "War doesn't determine who's right; just who's left" made me crack a smile.

From what I hear, the first wave of closed beta invites go out on Monday. Supposedly, "priority access" isn't all one pool, as I had thought -- PS1 subscriptions (including Station Passes if you had played PS1) current as of late June (before they gave everybody the free time) are at the front of the line, then lapsed PS1 subs, then keys from PCGamer/Twitter/Conventions/PR events, then simple sign-ups.

My guess is that the "current subs" will probably only be big enough for 2, maybe 3 waves.

Hrm. Hope I can find time to play it if I ever get an invite. I'll be at the end of the list, since they didn't even recognize my ancient sub in time to credit me time for the Planetside Day event. Ha! Maybe I'll get an invite around Christmas.
