My son is eight years old, and having watched most of the marvel movies and Avengers he asked me if I could get him some comics. As a point of reference I didn't let him watch any of the batman movies. I don't feel like he needs the grittiness they have just yet. I would like the same from the comics, he watches The Clone Wars, and Ninjago. Is there a comic I can get him where they aren't completely emotional disasters and constantly dealing with heavy issues? He just needs something that's fun to read right now.

Giant in the Playground? My 7-year old digs it, although lately some of the themes may be getting a bit mature for him.

Most stuff i remember is aimed at teens. If you want something genuinely ok for little people the mouse guard is very very good. Maybe rust, or atomic robo.
the clockwork girl was lovely.

A recognisable and safe hero might be all star superman. Careful - different imprints get adult fast.

I used to love Excalibur as a teen. You can probably pick up a collected paperback. Elf quest was great, but maybe adult themes. Try checking any of the above out in the shop first.

Ultimate Spider-Man. I'm behind, so I'm not up to snuff on anything past issue 12 or so of Volume 2 (including when they start calling it the Ultimate Comics: Spider-man), but it's all collected in trades and shouldn't be dealing with themes any more mature than the PG-13 Marvel Movies. Make sure to start with Volume 1 collections, you'll know you've got the right low issues if they've got Bagley on art.

I might try the ultimate spiderman route. Someone he recognizes. I'll check out the others as well.

Didn't DC do a series based on the Teen Titans cartoon?
