I rarely shoot it, I just wanted to have a 1911. I prefer the ergos and functionality of the Sig P guns and Glock over the 1911. I'd even say I prefer the FN P as well as Smith and Wesson M&P.

I think you're the first person I've ever seen say they prefer the ergonomics of a Glock over a 1911 :)

Personally, I think the old Laser Tag rippoffs (Photon) guns I had in the 80s have better ergonomics than a Glock...

The only thing I like about the 1911 compared to the glock is the grip angle. It's grip is too flat for my preferences, the Glock axis bore sits lower in my hand and I don't like pistols with grip safety or manual safety. Safe action triggers or a decocking lever is all the safety I need/want.

I've carried a Glock for years. Its a reliable pistol but damn its ergonomics. If they'd just angle that grip a touch more and id be entirely happy.

The grip angle is a bit rakish but I love the stipling and overall profile. I've just learned to accept it, I guess. Give the XD/XDM series a shot. I owned an XD40 for years and it is basically a glock knockoff with a 1911 grip angle but also that damned 1911 grip safety.

I'm quite fond of the glock in every respect. Sadly, the only one I presently own is a 34 that my father had heavily modified for competition shooting with a lighter barrel and a very low trigger squeeze. I'm not a fan of either feature.

Standard Gen 3 G19 loves it.

Back from the shop. The winner is- Sig 1911 Extreme. Ergonomics are exactly what I wanted, finger lines up right where I want it on the trigger, points naturally, even has the rail I wanted.

And it already bit me :) guess i gotta keep it.

While out at the range and teaching my nephew how to shoot, I took the opportunity to toss a few down range and below are the results. Both of these are my first attempts of the day with each gun, and in the case of the .45 it's actually the first time that I've ever shot it. I had planned to do another round later after I'd had some more practice with especially the .45 but wasn't able to because we ran out of targets. Both guns were fired free standing, both hands at 21ft.

That .22 automatic of yours looks quite similar to my Huntsman .22 automatic. Fun to shoot, and excellent for diagnosing bad habits.

Stripped and reassembled a few times to get the feel for it. Now cleaned, RemOiled and ready to roll.

That's a nice looking 1911. I'll be curious to hear how you like to shoot it.

I'd like to find a good 1911 to have as my all purpose big handgun. I don't want to shoot my grandfathers .45 too much because it's in such good condition.

Indeed. It's a joy to shoot and a real nail pounder. I need to hit the range more often, I'm rusty.

Was curious if there was a reason why this was posted in Hellfire or was it purely for curiosity?

Also, what about practical accuracy like IPSC competitions and 3 Gun Nation type drills? I know guys who do AR run and gun drills with an automatic pistol backup and shoot 4" steel targets around 10-30 yard distances (realistic engagement distances) but go for speed while putting in a required number of followup shots. It also tests your fundamentals while under physical exertion. Some of the competitions look downright exhausting.

The poster wasn't sure that most of us are pro-gun?

Ask a bunch of pro gun folks to come to a consensus or express an opinion on something and you'll need the Hellfire option lol.

Don't make me start an AR vs AK thread... even though the Mosin Nagant is superior to both.

I'm well aware most people are pro-gun here. I just figured since it was tangential to other gun-related arguments that happen here, I might as well start it here.

That's just ridiculous... ;)

Now if you'd said M-14...

I wouldn't necessarily look at myself as pro-gun. I'm simply not anti-gun.

I don't think that makes me a pro-gun. I just like precise, well designed machines. Notice many guys own and maintain a collection of similar toys: rifles, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, guitars and countless other gadgets.

I don't want to turn this into a semantics argument but IMO owning a gun, even just one, is being "pro" gun. Especially when you call your excitement for upgrading said gun a compulsion/disease.

There are many gun owners who would be classified anti-gun by many other gun owners. For example the large number of hunters who are just fine with a ban on handguns or black rifles, or whatever they don't use to hunt.

Exactly. Personal ownership is just that. I don't encourage, discourage or have any opinions about firearms ownership of others or for society in general. I don't think arms ownership should be prohibited nor do I think it should be encouraged, incentivized or required for society in general for means of self-defense, survival, recreation etc. I don't think the ownership of arms is a bane to society nor do I find that it makes society significantly safer, effective or more efficient except in that in the rawest sense, they are tools. But I don't feel any differently than I do about tools like automobiles, hammers, particle accelerators etc.

I simply find that I might have an exceedingly rare occasion to use such a tool to defend myself and not accepting the idea of just being helpless, own a firearm for my own protection. I don't pity, become outraged at or consider myself above others for not also wanting to act in this same capacity to defend themselves, I simply choose to do what I can to not count myself among them.
