I've seen an article advising that same oil removal before trying to weather model railroad cars.

I wonder if this would serve as a semi-permanent rust/corriosion/pitting preventative for hand tools.

I have to keep all of my hand planes, chisels and other similar hand tools coated in a thin film of camilla oil to prevent rust and pitting. The oil is problematic when working with wood that might be stained by it (i.e. soft Spruce or even Maple), or if you are working on something that will be glued or finished.

As it is now, just to be safe, I have to remove the oil from the working surfaces, do my work, then clean up and re-oil. It's quite a pain...

The problem I see with this notion is that any sharpened edges of the tool will not keep the coating properly -- and thus be prone to rust unless you oil the edges anyways.

I'm curious on the thickness of the coating. Looking at the boots, it seems to be quite thick, leaving behind a white residue. Thereby making any fabric weave appliation quite uncomfortable.

If it's non-toxic after application, beyond the point of boiling, it would be fun to apply this to coffee mugs and watch the confusion as my friends try not to spill coffee on themselves when they try to drink from a coated cup... teehee...
