Looking like this is an awesome reboot! Releases on March 5th but reviews are already hitting and they're all positive. I played the demo a while ago and I'm really looking forward to picking this one up.

Is this the game where people ***** about the treatment of women in video games because there was the scene where a villain attempted to rape Lara Croft? (Which, if I remember the trailers correctly, led to the assailant being impaled by a tree branch.)

Pretty funny "clueless gamer" with conan o'brian about the new Tomb Raider.

Definitely planning to play this one, have avoided most details, but the graphics while they're playing look beautiful.

I have loved this series for 17 years. I got my first 3D accellerator graphics card (A 4MB PCI "Matrox Mystique") in order to play the original in all its pixellated glory.

I'm a little over 60% through the game and I have yet to see this supposed 'attempted rape' scene. At two points someone was either pulling Lara's legs or strangling her, but neither had a sexual vibe.

Great game, though. Sort of like Uncharted meets Zelda.

The deaths during any scripted sequences are brutal. One time I was trying to sneak by some dudes and they saw me, Lara got an arrow through the thigh and one through the throat before she died gasping for breath. Oh and then there was that one time I got my body crushed under a boulder. That was fun.

Spectacular game, so far, although the "Ultimate" graphics settings bring my purrrty new gaming laptop to its 15 fps knees. Ultra settings only get up to about 22fps. High settings run at 48fps, which is the sweet spot here I guess.

So, I'm 33% of the way in, and on the mission "Open Wounds." The objective? "Find First Aid."

Seriously? NOW? Where the **** has this mission objective been since, you know, like 3% into the game?

Haha, well... You did just go through some pretty painful ****.

IMO Lara is actually Super Woman. She goes through so much painful **** without anything other than the occasional limp that disappears after 5 minutes.

I beat the game at 70% and spent another hour post-game getting up to 81%. Pretty short game, but a great adventure/experience.

Oh, I'm inclined to agree. I'm in (just finished? I think it's a new area title after I stepped through the gate) Shantytown after 8 hours and at 37%, now, and based on you saying you beat the game at 70% and my estimation of the way the story's headed, I'd believe I'm 50-60% of the way through.

Which really puts this game at a sweet spot for me. I don't have the patience to finish 70 hour RPG experiences anymore, so this is likely a game I'll finish. And the story's been solid. It's not going to win any writing awards, but it's gripped my attention with its combination of excellent pacing, constant action, and just enough character development (of a fairly standard character trope, granted) to get me emotionally invested in seeing Lara through.

But, yeah. Lara's up there with 80's action stars when it comes to taking preposterous beatings and walking them off after a scene or two. They do make it look so pretty, though.

I'll be interested to see if they have Lara keep some scars from this in the follow-ups of the reboot. That stomach puncture that's bled all over her shirt can't have healed cleanly, and her left shoulder has some really nice bump-mapped gashes that could scar up nicely and give sequel Lara some good textural character.

Picked this up from the Steam Summer Sale, and started playing yesterday. Holy Crap this game is intense. It really just grabs you and sucks you into the story. Don't think I've ever played a game that's drawn me into the setting so much. I mean, you really are Lara Croft, you become her. And you're fighting for your life, right along with her. And the beautiful graphics, and the well designed areas just pull you in even more.

Now I'm really kicking myself for not picking this one up sooner, but I'm glad I got such a steal on it from the Steam Sale.

I also picked this up yesterday, and played it for an hour or so last night (got about 10% through).

So far, i find it's fantastic!

I was able to set all of the graphics settings, including shadows, to max/ultra, and was still getting 50-60fps at 2560x1440. The detail is stunning, especially on the character model.

And, after all of the hell she goes through, how does she keep her hair so.. perfect?

The appeal of this game was that most of the stuff happening to her and how she dealth with it seemed almost plausible. By the final third of the game, it just starts getting nutty.

I loved that, like 2/3s of the way through the game, I got a new objective. It flashed up and I laughed. Why? It was "Find medical attention." Really, ya think? Just now, this becomes a priority?

So my playthrough back in the spring got interrupted by being out of town, and it did so at a point where it was being particularly shooty, which isn't my favorite bit (and it was a tough sequence, too), so over the summer, whenever I said "Hey, I should go back and finish Tomb Raider up," I'd play for a few minutes and turn it off.

Last weekend, though, I finished it off (well, finished the story, I'm sitting at 80% completion) in about 3 evenings and a Saturday. It was a pretty satisfying ending. And so now I can start something else without the guilt, and still go back on a whim to do some jumping and exploration to knock out the rest of those finds.

Sparks from bullets in general are a Hollywood thing. Real bullets are almost always copper-coated, and don't spark off metal. In hazardous areas, workers often use copper hammers for this reason.
