It's been bad, but it's not much worse than the launch of wow or D3... after 24 hours of constant annoyingness... the game worked for me yesterday night.

I'm not quite used to the idea of multiple cities and ended up building a nice city, but than ran out of room for all the other stuff. I'm going to start a whole new region tonight just to play around with the idea of duo cities. If you're playing by yourself, you almost have to multitask and build each city up simultanously, other wise you run out of money to build up the garbadge facilities, while the other city haven't even started paying you for it yet.

After messing around, I'm actually quite excited at the prospect... it's like making a major state, 1 city at a time...

Oh this game is aeons better than WoW at launch. I've played more of it in the past 24 hours than I did in a week of WoW.

See, I realized this yesterday, about 6 hours of total playtime into the game. So, when I tried to switch back to my first city...

The game declared I had lost connection to the server.

At that point, I decided to say **** it, and started playing Tomb Raider instead.

Now that is a good game.

You all should lobby for the creation of priority customer accounts that, for a nominal fee, let you access special servers with smaller loads. An Origins Gold membership, or something of the sort.

I feel that if people are going to insist on being part of the problem and giving EA their money, they should go all the way with it. Get yourself a premium server.

If I was with EA...I'd say that is a great idea.

Even if I'm not with EA I'd probably sign up for this arrangement, just to avoid the headaches... I mean it's not like I didnt already do that 10 years ago... with EQ. Even with EQ, expansion launch dates were a nightmare...

And before anyone argue about the pricing of expansion packs in EQ... in Australia the expansion packs were $50 a pop, and I got Simcity for $70, so it's not vastly more expensive =P Apparently they are still shipping games here via horse and cart and swimming sharks pulling a tinnie=P

I suppose the argument could be made that Simcity is a predominantly single player game, like D3, but the D3 launch was somewhat horrid as well, and I lost a char just to have it restored later, when I had already made another char...

I would even dare to say the EA experience so far, has been above average... at least for me... for a game launch...

I think there is a point to some of that if they had simply branded the game as Sim City Online, a f2p MMO then we might be all less angsty. However they didn't, and that was their choice to make.

There's also something to the point that if the consumer base for video games weren't in aggregate complete **** and would stop giving people money for the privilege of being abused, then the abuse would stop happening.

Really, they've just found the Holy Grail of abuse. Why should I abuse you when I can get you to pay me for the privilege of abusing yourself? The key to manipulation is not making people do what you want, it's getting people to come up with the idea of doing what you want on their own.

I used to have fun playing older versions of Simcity, but it was one of those on-and-off games that I played when everything else bored me.

I don't see how any of this crap they're heaping on it could possibly improve play.

So far the game has been pretty fun. I was fortunate enough to be out of town for the first few days of the launch, so I missed all the server BS.

If anyone wants to do some region play, my Origin name is Amanarian.

I find that rather difficult to believe, since Argent Dawn was up well over 90% the week of WoW's launch.

Yesterday, in SimCity ...

1. Random DNS issues and routing issues caused players in games to lose connection with their servers.

2. I discovered that Origin's file-integrity check doesn't work. I had to re-install SimCity after the large data file became corrupted due to a crash, but Origin only checks location and total data size.

But, you know ...

It's not a bad game, it's just an incomplete game that's had more features removed in the week since launch than Blizzard dumbed-out of WoW in 6 years.

Argent Dawn was one of the very, VERY few servers that weathered the storms of disconnectivity. Which is why I created a guild on it called "Our Servers Crashed." (Until one of the whiny roleplayers complained to a GM about it since it upset their delicate balance of believablity in a medieval fantasy world full of MC Hammer dances and ray guns)

Well I can certainly attest to the "tourism is broken" part. My city is a tourist's wet dream. And when it's working properly I get over 4k of tourists, and even then I think it's a little low and broken.

But. like clockwork, my medium wealth tourists go from 2000 to 0 at the drop of a hat. They get stuck in some hotel, or something like that. The only I've found to fix the problem? Bulldoze the hell out of my hotels. Then the number shoots back up.

I stopped buying EA games after Battlefield 3 had continuous server issues for the Xbox for an entire week after launch. **** you EA.

Edit:

Disregard. I've now read the news article and forum posts.

Sounds stupidly broken. Good thing they don't allow refunds, eh?

I'm not too upset. I am sure things will get ironed out. EA is just notoriously bad at forcing products out the door before they're fully cooked.
