Seems to be a whole lot of coverage when they don't seem to know squat. It's fine that they don't know squat IIRC It took them at least a couple days to find McVeigh and that was because they had the truck and he (or was it the other guy) were being held for something else afterward. Why not say "We don't know squat, and when we know squat we'll report on it"

Strategy. Let the perpetrators think you know something and hope they get anxious and make mistakes.

Of course the reports of unexploded bombs were provided by a Senator who sits on the Intelligence Committee which speaks poorly of the Intelligence Community as a whole.

Because that's not how you win ratings, earning money, and thus pleasing your corporate overlords.

Jay Mohr is using the bombings to call for the complete repealment of the 2nd amendment:

I love that Jay Mohr thinks he's famous enough that anybody cares.

I love that he actually thinks guns have to do with bomb attacks, that violence can actually be stopped and that culture must change because he wants it to and puts "MUST" in caps.

There were multiple unexploded devices, then there weren't. It wasn't as bad as Sandy Hook, where there were multiple suspects, etc. I don't know if its worse than in the past or if I'm just hearing about it more often, or even if I'm just getting sensitive to it, but the promotion of inaccuracies seem to be more common lately.

And yet, at the same time they were misreporting this, every outlet I heard was simultaneously talking about how it's important not to jump to conclusions or misreport the facts.

Tom the anchorman: “Peril, crisis and fear tonight as what appears to be a massive flood has overtaken the town of Beaverton, Colorado, home of the world’s largest beaver dam. Earlier today, a break in the beaver dam which protected the town broke open, trapping people in their houses and destroying their lives.”

Mitch, the reporter: “Tom, I’m currently ten miles outside of Beaverton, unable to get inside the town proper. We do not have any reports of fatalities yet, but we believe that the death toll may be in the hundreds of millions. Beaverton has only a population of about 8,000, Tom, so this would be quite devastating.”

Tom: “Any word on how the survivors in the town are doing, Mitch?”

Mitch: “We’re not sure what’s exactly is going on inside the town of Beaverton, Tom, but we’re reporting that there’s looting, raping and, yes, even acts of cannibalism.”

Tom: “My God, you’ve actually seen people looting, raping and eating each other?!”

Mitch: “No, no we’ve haven’t actually seen it, Tom. We’re just reporting it.”

Apparently there has been an arrest. FOX and AP confirming.

What story are we discussing? Salon.com has less journalistic integrity than Bill O'Reilly, and Salon.com is only slightly less appalling than the stuff that comes out of Amanda Marcotte's mouth. So, I'm not really surprised they'd run anything ... it's tabloid trash commentary for the people without enough common sense to get their posts on DailyKOS or the Huffington Post. Salon.com just pretends its a journalism outfit. You can read the editorial here, by their general editor, for proof:

http://www.salon.com/2013/04/18/the_nra_will_be_sorry/

His facts are inexcusably inaccurate. His opinions are not balance or juxtaposed for objectivity.

He has a point that I wish more people, on both sides of the issue, would consider. He is actually right. You can not talk about gun control until you repeal the second amendment. We should absolutely not be talking about gun control in any way shape or form. What we should be talking about is repealing the second amendment.

If we do not talk about repealing the second amendment, if we want to pass any gun control laws without first repealing the second amendment, then Muslims get to pass a law criminalizing mocking their prophet, and Catholics get to pass a law requiring everyone to tithe to the Vatican, and they get to do it without having to worry about the first amendment.

So Jay Mohr is right. We need to be discussing whether or not we should repeal the second amendment. It's just that, until now, no liberal has been bold enough to suggest it. They not have enough traction that the populace might consider it now, because we've become so accustomed to the idea of gun control due to ignoring the second amendment for so long. Let's talk about repealing specific points in the Bill of Rights. We need to have that discussion. We need to have it right now.

I should probably not call Joan Walsh a "him" and indicate "his" facts, as Taly would be wont to point out, but ... don't really care about respecting Ms. Walsh's obvious political proclivities on gender issues and signifiers. That said ...

There's someone who should actually lose his syndicated column for something he published for Salon. I can't imagine what kind of damage he's done to the personal and professional reputations of his colleagues by publishing such tripe.
