My new manager is trying to move me to be with the new team (in the same building on the same floor). I have refused. I might lose my job over this... we'll see what happens. Or it could work out fine. But I'm not giving it up.

I got moved from my window-view cubicle.

I am getting a new one soon, though. Yay!

I haven't had a window cube since 2004 or so. Fortunately my job allows me to work remotely fairly often, and I have cause to walk between two buildings often enough that I wouldn't consider not having a window cube worth losing my job over.

We also have a laaarge break room area that has very large windows that are great for getting some sun.

Hey Lex, just use the new non-window cube as an excuse to take more breaks and go outside.

It's ok, I'll just be autistic about this and lose my job over it. If they want to take my window seat away, I guess they don't want me as an employee.

they'll have to dismiss you, simply because it undermines their authority. It won't be about the seat, it will be about general perception.

If that's the way it is, then that's how it'll be. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Employment is a voluntary contract.

On the other hand, maybe I'll be able to keep the window seat.

Well I have to risk my life every day by driving to work. I am certainly not a good enough driver. So honestly it isn't worth it to keep working here if they are going to take stuff away from me like this.

They might be looking to fire him for some other reason, but can't do it legally due to being an equal opportunity employer.

I think this is unlikely. I think Hopwin is probably correct. But I don't know for sure.

I could be randomly laid off anyways, due to corporate restructuring, so there's always that too.

If you took them to court over firing you for refusing to move seats I am pretty sure no one would consider it "with cause" in such a liberal state.

I work for my company, not my manager. So in my opinion, it is not insubordination.

This is a bad move. If you feel you can do better elsewhere, go now. Otherwise work within the system. Find justification in company rules for your stands. If it gets to be too oppressive for you, quit and follow your success quickly to your next position.

It is currently a stalemate, where I am remaining in my cube with the window view. A stalemate for a long enough time will ensure victory for me.

I hope you do get fired, because you need to learn that you're easily replaceable and there are more developers than you can count that don't give a **** about windows.
