Having an agitating day dealing with the realtor. Poor customer service that I'm really tired of. People in sales should know how to be proactive communicators.

Well, there's always plan B. Make it more work for him to not do his job, than to do his job. Of course, that takes up a lot of your time.


We're having a discussion soon about it. I'm going to make them copy me on every email and communication they send about my house, as well as send an email when they pump it via twitter or facebook.

That way, if I don't get communications or emails for a while I can claim they're not doing their job and use that to get out of the contract.

You might not, but a lot of people would. If you're not going to do that, sign the agreement. 30 days is not an unreasonable period to determine if they're "doing their job".

Realtors are dicks because people are dicks to them. The ones I've dealt with I've been up front and honest and they've returned the attitude. Part of it is knowing which questions to ask, how to ask them, and always ask if there is something else I need to know that I'm not thinking to ask you. I've has some surprising answers to that one.

I disagree. If you're trying to sell or buy a house, 30 days is an age.

I'm not interested in working with someone that won't take me at my word.

I rolled through 3 or 4 in two weeks who were lazy and/or incompetent. I then found one I loved. When I moved again, she was out of the business but recommended me to another whom I loved.

Just went thru this bought I new place a couple months ago , started renovations as soon as we closed, land scaping structural changes and and such. once we hit 90% of changes on new place we started the move. after move basic updates to old house clean up paint etc. called the realtor old one had retired suggested a new new guy ( Punk kid ), he had no clue about the house and history, didn't know what 3 phase power was. he couldn't sell this house for value if his life depended on it.
found someone who handled crossover properties. no contract, had an offer in 48 hours sight unseen, above what we were thinking of asking.
if your lazy and don't know wtf you have, get out.

No it isn't. If I'd been able to sell my house in 30 dyas I'd have been ecstatic.

Get used to not working with anyone then. Lots of people don't keep their word. You might, but people don't know you. You're not special; there's no reason you should merit special trust until you demonstrate it to the person in question.

Sorry to hear that. That deadline for you does not, however, mean the realtor is not doing their job or that 30 days is an age in selling a house. It's an age because of your personal needs. Pawning this off on the realtor as "not doing their job" because of your circumstance is unrealistic and unfair.

What are you talking about? We are talking specifically about realtors not doing their jobs. Nobody suggested they need to sell the house, well, ever. The discussion is about realtors doing work.

Please do. Please ignore it, since you're not paying attention anyway. If not, then well, we've established that they were not "doing their jobs". I know this because I said they were "not doing their job". Now, you imply above that they may have been "doing their jobs" but I didn't realize it. This is an interesting theory, and somewhat strange to hold. Perhaps they really were showing me houses and I didn't realize it? Perhaps I blacked out and forgot? Perhaps being a realtor doesn't really mean you have to show clients houses and I'm just an idiot? Common sense should tell you that step #1 in my relationship with Realtor_01 included a discussion regarding what they would do for me. Hence "the job", and my subsequent knowledge of what constitutes not "doing their job". Moreover, service-industry personnel are typically expected to explain what services they will provide; thus, if I had a complete lack of understanding about what constitutes "doing the job", then they probably didn't "do their job".

Ah, so you are a buyer in this scenario. It used to be that there wasn't the option for the buyer to sign an agreement with their realtor and the realtor actually worked for the seller. Realtors would face serious legal trouble for saying stuff like "I think this seller is eager to sell".
But really, the thing that really annoyed my parents is without that buyers agreement the following happened.

Buyer: So I saw this ad for this really great house. I went ahead and called the realtor selling it and took a look at it. I really liked it.
Realtor: *sigh* Why didn't you call me? I would have showed the house to you.
Buyer: Oh, I didn't want to bother you. Anyway, I'd like to put a contract on that house.
Realtor: Well, good luck with that. Unfortunately I can't help you with this house and you will need to contact the realtor who showed you the house.
Buyer: But that's the seller's realtor!
Realtor: Yes, yes it is.

My biggest annoyance was when we bought our first house. This realtor wanted me to get preapproved for a loan through "his guy" before he would believe that I could afford my budget. I told him he did not need to worry about my finances and that I could get a loan, and that I wasn't going to get a loan put together until I saw what was out there. He said he needed the preapproval so that I wouldn't "waste his time". It was three weeks of dealing with this tool not showing me houses until I got fed up.

Needless to say, I didn't waste any more of his time.
