I
Spoiler:
thought the "Kahnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!" was great. I like it when a movie does stuff like that.

It was good. I'm not not a hardcore Star Trek fan, decent characters and stuff. It was a good movie. I'm assuming the Borg will be in the next one as they seem to have covered most of the main bad guys so far(though the Klingons could use a little more spotlight).

Good movie.

Borg were a TNG thing.

Aye, unless there is another time travel movie, we won't see the Borg, they are too far out.

It wouldn't necessarily need to be time travel. The Borg are out there somewhere. They'd just have to find some reason/way for the Borg to find them, or for the Federation to find the Borg. Something that makes sense in this new timeline.

And I do agree with the point made on the first page. Time travel in movies (or literature) sucks. The only movie I've seen do it well was Primer.

Frequency was kind of cool, but no one actually travels in time. I need to see if I can acquire that movie again.

Well, to do time travel correctly you'd have a really convoluted and forever unresolved-plot movie. It'd be more like Quantum Leap meets Sliders, since the universe (as Stephen Hawking believes) has built-in fail safes against temporal paradoxes and will either prevent the time travel from ever happening or create infinite alternate universes that would forever splinter from your own. They'd never be able to get back to the point they started from, if they could ever get anywhere/anywhen at all.

I'll take Bill & Ted over that any day. :-)

The old guy in the teal blazer has a good description of time travel and how it would work somewhere in this video. I'm not sure exactly where he brings it up, so I've queued the video at about the point where he whips the universe out of a box.

Star Trek should avoid time travel as much as possible. Please.

Considering it was done on the first movie of the reboot, that ship has sailed...

And at every opportunity in every incarnation of the franchise (so completionistly so that the Animated Series got in on the action before it was collectively forgotten about!), I'd say that Wwen's statement is categorically wrong: A reboot should, by necessity, include copious time travel for it to be considered legitimate.

No, just retcon it all or start over. Time travel almost always ends up dumb.

As far as new Trek, Time travel only explains why everything is different from the original. In that sense it's the sci-fi equivalent of "A wizard did it" If that's all the series does with the concept, then I'm okay with that.

Not every time travel story can be Bill & Ted.

You may be a king or a little street sweeper but sooner or later you dance with the reaper.

Now that they've remade one of the original series, looking forward to them slingshotting off the sun and going back to get some... Emus or something. Gotta switch it up!

Would it have hurt them to create a plot that made even a modicum of sense? The ending was so stupid it irritated me. Apparently Abrams is to story-lines what Lucas is to dialog.

So, what you're saying, Deeger, is we need Abrams to do the storylines, Lucas to do the writing, and Whedon to direct?

Throw in Keanu to play the lead and I'm sure you've described one of the signs of the Apocalypse. Something about four horsemen and horse @$#*...

Wait, when did Whedon become a bad director?

Direction isn't Whedon's strong point on a film project, and I often feel like he doesn't quite know what to do with action scenes.

That said, he's not terribad, but the point was to take a geek's fantasy team and mix up their roles to make it as bad as possible.
