Good analogy. Also, look up pictures from inside the cockpit of any modern jet fighter. They've had them for a long time so that the pilot does not have to take his eyes off the windshield to see things like altitude, airspeed... and when he has missile lock.

Fair enough, but in terms of major airliners being used today this cockpit looks like it will be a dream to operate. For comparison, here's a pick of a 747 cockpit.

Oh I understand that it is more simple. I just disagree that it is simple.

Go Stop Land, Take Off buttons and a way to steer, a radio and intercom would be more like simple to me.

Tahts all kinds of cool...

Prior to 911, I've always wanted to talk my way into one, just for curiosity sake. Unfortunately when I was old enough to start talking, 911 happened and now I have no chance >.<

Some cars from the 80's had HUD's, though they were crude and limited at best. For example, the C4 L83 and L88 powered Corvettes introduced a digital speedometer projection on the windshield that is still available. Here's a C5 (MY '97-'04):

As for that 747 cockpit,  that is a bit much to take in. Here's a pic of a control room that looks very similar to where I work:

I'd say the 747 is worse, it's such a small space but the annunciators and indication are all just packed in to a tiny space. Although, that would be cool to bust out random lines at opportune times:

"They told me they fixed it. I trusted them to fix it. It's not my fault!"

As long as there's not a big red button that says "push me" I'm good...

I can't resist buttons and levers... they demand a messing!
