I highly doubt they will hold themselves to anything in the expanded universe. Disney owns them now and they're not going to tie themselves down by anything written before they purchased it.

I'm not sure about that. Disney's made its fortune off of copying stories written long before their project, after all. The only difference, here, is they purchased the rights to those stories instead of just cherry picking from the public domain...
