Based upon the information available to us currently, which console(s) are you planning to purchase either at launch or at some point down the road?

IF I buy one, based on current information alone, it would not be at launch and would be the PS4.

Microsoft would have to let me unplug the Kinect for me to consider it at all, much less even try to get over the other problems with their console.

I have a WiiU already (thanks, Shadow of the Eternals...grumble), and I've preordered both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, but only the PlayStation 4 order will likely make it to completion.

Undecided. I'll probably buy a WiiU once it sees a price drop or two, I'm in no rush since Nintendo titles aren't heavily multiplayer dependent.

Otherwise, I'm leaning towards the X-Box One. They've started making noises that suggest they understand and can ameliorate the privacy concerns that had me hesitant to begin with. And I have fond memories of Killer Instinct, which offers more than a little motivation. Then, I also know a few other people with whom I could probably justify playing Titanfall and/or The Division.

I voted 'none'.

Way after launch, I may reconsider and Xbox but:

1) I am in no rush to get a new Xbox and would like to see how some of the features truely shake out.
2) I actively avoid giving Sony money for anything (not just PlayStation).
3) I forgot Nintendo thing was already released, and don't really give a rip about their stuff. I don't have anything against them; they just don't trip my trigger.

I'm sure I'll eventually get both the PS4 and the XB1. Not in any rush to get either, though. Huge backlog of PS3 and 360 games to get through first. I imagine my gf will get me one or the other for Christmas, and I'll pick up the other one sometime next year.

Microsoft has said that the Kinect can in fact be disabled/unplugged.

Right now, I'll be waiting to see how things play out, but as it stands, I'm not interested in either.

I'm mainly interested in the Internet media capabilities, and would probably prefer the new Xbox.

The other devices do not interest me in the slightest.

I'll be getting a PS4 at launch and likely an Xbox One at some point down the line, but never, ever a Wii U.

I did some googling after your post and couldn't find anything (other than the fact that MS says "It's only listening for the "Xbox On" command and not anything else"). Do you know where you saw that? From what I've read, the Xbox one won't even operate without the kinect connected and powered on.

I can't go looking for links right now, and it's Ben only sporadically reported, but it's been stated that you can disable many features of the Kinect 2 (face recognition was the example specifically given, IIRC) on a feature by feature basis. In addition, you can "pause" the Kinect entirely, suspending it's function entirely, though the impression I got was that this would be something you did every time you say down to play rather than a persistent system setting like the per-feature thing. Finally, you can turn the X-Box One completely off instead of putting it into standby where it's listening for the X-Box On command.

I've heard these things, but I'd want to physically unplug it from the console. Besides nuking it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure the thing isn't listening.

You won't be getting an Xbox then. No Kinect plugged in = system no worky.

Never know, they may change their tune when the DoD bans them on-base and nobody buys their crap.

PC master race. But I'll likely end up getting all three at some point...but not within 2 years of release. There are certain exclusives I want on all three(well, there's nothing on the WiiU that interests me, but I have to imagine there will be a Fire Emblem game on it at some point and that is when I'll buy it).

I don't have any specifics I can give. I work two blocks from the main Microsoft campus. I know and lunch with quite a few folks known locally as 'Softies'.

I was 'told' that the Kinect can be disabled/removed. I don't recall the specific details of the conversation. The context was that I had expressed concern about this feature being 'always on'. The response was a reassurance that it won't be a problem. As far as the qualifications of the people involved in the conversation, I can't really give them, except to say that they work in QA/Testing.

I don't have any blog posts to link to (I guess I could write one. Would that help?).

No, people don't care about facts, only potential possibilities.

I have no 'facts' to give anyway. And nothing I was told has swayed me one way or the other regarding my potential purchase.

I have no intentions of pre-ordering a console (I have no idea why anyone would do this?). I'll wait and see for myself if it suits my needs.

For what it's worth, I'm not terribly worried about always needing to be online. My phone data service is always online. My PC's are always online if they are turned on. Same with my 360. If it's on, it's connected. When I'm not using it (which is pretty much all the time any more) it's turned off at the power strip.

My aversion to Kinect is most about my lack of enthusiasm for gesture interfaces in general. If I'm laying on my couch watching a movie, or otherwise occupied, I don't want to have to wave my hands in the air to get the thing to change channels (or whatever). Facial recognition is also not something I care about. There is exactly one profile on my existing Xbox, and that is exactly how many my new one will have.

I'll just sit back and chill until the thing comes out. Then I'll go check them out at the Microsoft Store, and see what the deal is. If it looks like it will work for me, I'll give them the money. if not, I'll just keep on keepin' on.

I never early adopt when it comes to consoles. I'll wait and see where things are at and what real-world peer reviews reveal, as well as what any incentives there between the two consoles and what they can offer me personally in terms of experience and games. Then after several months of their release I'll make the call.

What made me buy the 360 in the last generation was 1. Price. 2. I liked the controller's feel over the PS3's. 3. The PS3 didn't have any exclusives that I had to have. 4. I didn't need a blu ray player.

My criteria will be different now that it's six years later and I am in a different position than I was back then. What that criteria is, I am still defining.

Personally, I really enjoy the Kinect with my toddler, she has a great time. However, any time I'm not using it, it's unplugged. As stated in so many other threads, my issue with the xbox one is purely the tack they have taken with making every single aspect of their console anti-consumer. The xbox won't turn on without the Kinect plugged in? What the hell is that? "I'm sorry, your NES won't boot unless you have at least one power-glove plugged in." No rentals, no used games, no disabling certain features (maybe disabling them on a per-boot basis, but as we all know, that's really not a solution), and just the general company line of "we're doing this **** for a better user experience", with absolutely no explanation as to how it will be better, other than for the publishers and Microsoft. At this point, I'm hanging in the PC master race until the exclusive comes out that pulls me back in. Let's hope the similarity to a PC translates to WAY more PC versions this generation.
