So there's one opening near my office. I have to wonder, why does this place exist? I mean, aside from the Gamestop font and colors, their whole gimmick is that they "smash" the burger on the grill because they saw so many red-blooded Americans doing the same thing when they grilled their own burgers.

The problem is that doing that to a burger is the dumbest thing to do, unless you prefer crappy and dry burgers. Just because a lot of folks don't know how to grill meat properly doesn't mean that their methods are a good idea. But apparently they make enough money to keep expanding.

So keep on the lookout for my new restaurant chain, Overcooked and Dry Steakhouse.

Never heard of them. Probably because the closest one to Seattle is in Idaho.

I guess I'll have to go to Five Guys, Red Robin or Fatburger if I wan't a bad hamburger

I've gone once. The burger was decent, but the most unique thing I saw in the place was the soda machine that allowed you to customize your drink with like 30 options. Other than that, /shrug.

Those coke machines are epic. They're spreading pretty quickly too.

Phe loves Flip burger boutique, which is closer to your neck of the woods, I believe, but I've never been there to try 'em. I have another friend who raves about them as well, though.

They are wonderful. I would think they are probably more efficient for the restaurant as well, but I wonder how long it takes to offset the initial cost.

The coke machines are indeed awesome. They also are required to have an internet connection, so coke knows exactly how much of what is being consumed and where. They are better calibrated than most too.

We had a smashburger down here. It went out of business before I could try it out, if that's any clue.

I shall have to check out Flip burger, then!

I love those soda machines. They have them in some Taco Time locations up here in WA. Only way I know to get Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke anymore.

We usually hit the Ram if we need a hamburger fix and can't be arsed to grill em up at home.

My wife and kids like those machines. I mostly just get Dr. Pepper and don't do anything stupid to it, because it's perfect just the way it is, but for people who like to do wacky things to bad soda (Coke, Pepsi, anything diet), I can see the attraction. I know I've seen one in Goodcents, and somewhere else that escapes me at the moment.

Vanilla rootbeer is my selection of choice at the touch screen as I don't really care for coke proper. Yeah several chains are picking up on them. Even several of the newer Wendy's. I even saw one at a Burger King in Dayton.

SmashBurger is doing pretty well in Colorado, and is one of my and Taamar's favorite fast food chains. Their food is pretty darn good, and they've got sides you don't see elsewhere.

We enjoy the place because, at least for now, it's something new in town. We really enjoy the smash fries that have the olive oil and rosemary dripped on them. They're better than a lot of places but definitely not the best. For us, Smash Burger is usually one of the better compromises between quality and price.

It definitely doesn't doesn't leave me in my car saying "Oh my goodness, oh my damn."

We have a couple of small family burger joints here in Sacramento. If I want a good classic burger I go to one of them.

I've tried Smash Burger, meh. Its okay, but overpriced for what is essentially just a fast food burger. They do give you lots of options, which is nice but ultimately, unnecessary for me.

Smashburger's only got a half-dozen items universal to the chain. The vast majority of their offerings are region bound because of supply chain issues and their attempt to incorporate the "fresh" component of nouvelle cuisine into a burger chain. And the offerings vary widely from Store to Store even in Colorado.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I was just driving around with my GPS between two residential locations and happened to find it.

but then again, I live in New England, where chain restaurants either don't exist, or are so far spread apart that they might as well not exist....

There are plenty of chain restaurants in New England. Just usually different chains from the ones on the West Coast.

I'd like to forget those exist as restaurants. The ice cream is fine, but the restaurants are not very good...
