The one time I cosplayed at Dragon*Con, I had soot all over my face in Atlanta in early September. It wasn't that bad -- the worst part was when my nose started itching and I rubbed it without thinking, then went "Aww, crap" as my finger came away all black.

This is why I forwent the face paint in my White Wolf Larping days.

You just get used to it. Many, many years ago I did a show in which I was in full face makeup and prosthetics. The process was actually more uncomfortable than being in makeup for several hours.
