Over the past several months I completely redid the electronics on my boat. This includes:
new VHF
remote microphone
new antenna
new wind sensor
new gps
new fluxgate compass
Battery charger and monitor
central control unit that allows everything to communicate
Chartplotter
four new mini screens that show sensor data (water depth and temperature, boat speed and direction, wind speed and direction)
Running all the wires was sooo much fun!
Still need to run the wires from the engine to the new screens, but that information is going to older analog dials so it could wait a bit.
Next I will get an AIS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Identification_System and Sirius. The AIS lets me know where other boats are, and when I have my number, broadcasts it to other vessels so they can 'see' me. Sirius provides the first world wide source of weather, and getting weather information has been spotty at best before this.
Radar (lets me see clouds and ships in line of sight), desalinator, solar panels, and water powered generator should be added before I start island hopping.
If people are interested, I can try to get pictures uploaded from my phone. Iphones don't play well with PCs.
