A slightly green shade of purple.

That's fine. This is an individual thing, not a race.

No. Though it should be noted that there are a couple ways you might interpret this rule in the context of complex numbers. Since only one of them is backwards compatible with the strictly real-number interpretation, I'll be using that one. The answer in this case would be "no" either way.

Sounds like that rule is considerably more complicated than the experiment's original framer thought.

The rule is simple; it just wasn't written with complex numbers in mind. I was, frankly, just humoring you. If you prefer, we could leave it at "the domain of the rule is all real numbers".

I thought the rule was quite simple, with a few control sets.

There is a reason for that.

Spoiler:
Remember being taught back in high school algebra that you have to turn your inequality symbol around whenever you multiply or divide by a negative number? That's because the definitions we taught you for "less than" and "greater than" are ****. That's why students have such a hard time with inequalities. They have the correct understanding of what "greater than" is supposed to mean, and we're trying to teach them a definition for the term that is flat out wrong on the left side of zero. It is, in point of fact, anything but simple. If it was simple, we wouldn't have to drill into your head that you have to turn the symbol around whenever you multiply or divide by a negative.
