One of the more popular songs on the country playlist right now is Redneck Crazy. It tells the story of a redneck jerk who's girlfriend cheated on him and his illegal and antisocial reactions after he found out. It glorifies being an ******* to everyone because someone displeased you.

I can't stand the song. I've known guys like that. I've called the cops on guys like that doing things like that. I cannot understand why this song is a jot, nor why it is lasting so long on the charts of a genre I usually enjoy. I change the station (101.9
The Wolf, anytime it comes on.

Do you folks encounter songs that fit your definition of stupid songs, or songs for the stupid. What are they? Why do you dislike them?

You apparently never listened to any Rap?

It isn't a genre I enjoy. I don't willingly listen to it.

And yes, most of the songs in Rap that I have heard fit this thread's title, in my opinion.

I never heard of this song before you mentioned it, and I had to go look up the lyrics.

Some guy was cheated on so he plans to park his truck on the cheaters lawn, drink a copious amount of beer, shine his truck lights in the window of the bedroom the cheater and her new BF are making out in, and throw the empties at the window.

On a scale of one to a give a damn, this hardly rates. That said, I don't like country music (the crap makes blood drip out of my ears) so if I heard the song I might hate it too.

You missed cranking his stereo up way too loud.

My mother listened to it a lot as I was growing. It is familiar and not offensive to me. Listening to country garners fewer speeding tickets than listening to rock.

Every now and then one of the songs stands out, good or bad.

Wasn't there a country song some years back by some female singer about her boyfriend cheating, and all of her illegal and antisocial reactions afterwards?

Isn't significant other cheating -> illegal activities in response pretty much par for the course in country music?

Yes, it is. You are most likely referring to "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood. Yeah, similar sentiment and yes, definitely over the top reaction. Not one of my favorite of her songs but at least she wasn't calling herself a stupid redneck.

You do have a good point though.

How about songs where the singer is the guy who is blatantly cheating, but the person he's singing to (as well as all the fans of the songs) don't seem to mind?

Two that immediately come to mind are Lips of an Angel by Hinder and Follow Me by Uncle Kracker.

Don't forget Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" and Sting's "Wrapped Around Your Finger," the 80s hits Atlantic Starr's "Secret Lovers" or Stevie Wonder's "Part Time Lovers"

In fairness though Sting and The Police generally have strange subject matter for their songs

Cheating in general is a classic topic for music regardless of genre. However, I don't seem to recall Sting singing about putting a brick through a woman's windshield because of the cheating.
