Personally I dislike nearly everything about the aesthetics (and usability) of Windows 8, although I do agree with you, it is superior to Win 7 in almost every other way.

I did find a Windows 7 Skin for ClassicShell (On DeviantArt.com, of all places).

So Microsoft just released their new top-down Halo game (spartan assault) for Windows 8 and windows 8 tablets ONLY. Oh Microsoft, when will you learn this just makes people hate you more?

Tried the RC, but while I feel like it's definitely Microsoft posturing themselves for the future of computing (Phones/Tablets/non-conventional PC's like Kitchen) I still feel like it's a travesty for support and usability on the desktop. Most of the features are simply redundant and commonly used ones are non-intuitive, the touch interface is distracting and workflow interrupting, and Metro applications (on a non-touch desktop) are almost never preferable to the desktop version. Improved effort Microsoft, but I can't imagine you taking business PC's away from Win7 any time soon.

*Update* just read wired's review, I'd say they're on the same page as I am:

Should you upgrade? Yes. It’s a solid update. The people who hated Windows 8, however, likely aren’t going to be much more pleased with 8.1. While it makes concessions to the desktop, Microsoft clearly is thinking more about touch and a future where devices are mere screens meant to reflect data stored on a server somewhere.
