I think it's great that any of your upgrades can be insured at all. EVE doesn't allow that; the insurance is only based on the value of the hull.

That's part of why it's not wise to turn your ship into a total blingmachine. It becomes a loot pinata for gankers, and since the high end modules each cost as much or more than the hull you're potentially getting back only a tiny fraction of what you lost. Hardly a week goes by that someone's fancy battleship built for Incursion fleets, worth billions in total, doesn't get ganked. The biggest I ever saw was a 73 billion ISK Nightmare-class battleship. The platinum insurance payout on that loss couldn't have been much more than 700 million or so.

Yeah, Pirates of the Burning Sea was the same way. You could insure your ship (which was kind of a misnomer, for the most part, since the insurance was on a per-sinking basis rather than insuring for a duration; it really just cut the replacement cost), and about a fifth of your upgrade slots were "permanent" and bound to your account, but the rest of them would be lost with the ship.

So, anyone else planning on going into piracy?

I haven't decided which laws I'm willing to bend and/or break on my shadier account. Smuggling? Yes, though I may draw the line at sentient trafficking. Piracy? Undecided. I think I'm leaning more towards setting up a base of operations a jump or two from the edge of pirate space and selling my services to the pirates' prey.

I haven't totally decided either, but I want to be out in the wild areas, and I want to fight. It's going to depend a lot on if money can be made on the mercenary/bounty hunter side. If it can, I'll go that way, but I will only have one account so if piracy is the way to make ahead, I'll be exploding people's spaceships. Especially Mus. He's totally getting trolled. ;)

I'll be quite surprised if there isn't serious money to be made on both sides of the law on the frontier.

I really hope that's the case. Being a pirate should be fraught with danger (and good fights!). I don't want any sort of bounty system to be easily exploited.

I'd actually like to be on a pirate gank squad. We send a decoy ship out loaded with attractive loot (or seemingly so) maybe with a token defense and we hang out cloaked ready to tear the pirates up.

Other than I believe there will be stealth in game, but not cloaking, I love this idea. Looking forward to tomorrow to see exactly what flavor of Hornet I will have to pull such a scenario off.

So in other words, I own the wrong domain name -- we should be the Void Raiders, not the Void Rangers. Lol.

Then I guess I'll renew it when it comes up for renewal, hehe. Heck, with the dogfighting alpha enroute, it might actually be time to stick something there.

I also vote Void Rangers, sounds much more heroic, even if we end up being villains.

Add another upvote for VoidRangers. I still like the name.

I figured out what I needed to upgrade to the 315P. I reclaimed the Digital Bounty Hunter - LTI pledge which included the ship, hanger fees, Lifetime insurance and all the downloadables (incl. the game itself)

There was another purchasable pledge item available to original backers which included all the aforementioned schwag in the Bounty Hunter pledge.

The Pathfinder package is mine (for an additional $15...Don't tell Oonagh)

Can't wait to get out there in my 315P.

Waiting for the release of the variants I've been waiting (and waiting) for is pure agony.

A forumite relays that the following was mentioned on the chatroll:

10:30 PST: Hornet update from WingMan: "Soon" but "don't be hitting F5 to refresh"

10:55 PST: Ben Lesnick: The Hornet is on the way.

10:56 PST: "Ben Lesnick: We're mixing sound on the updated commercial, rendering graphics for the updated brochure... it's all happening now and we hope to have something to show you really soon."
Ben Lesnick: There will be one variant that's available for a week, two that are permanent additions.
Ben Lesnick: No 24-hour sales.

So.. Basically the same as happened with the 300i. And we'll see it just as fast as their computers can deliver the final rendered and encoded content.
