I don't like the quad lasers and stick with the heavy. Then again, I am a big number whore. I had some dork in a scout try to play chicken with me today. I was hammering him with the heavy gun while getting a missle lock... I won.

Can you shoot missiles/torps down?

Not that I know of. The missles travel pretty fast, and you are better off trying to avoid being locked on in the first place.

The heavy lasers just fire too slow, for me. With the ships darting in and out of your firing arc so often, I prefer to have a higher rate of fire. Rapid fire lasers fire really fast, but I find, they just don't do enough damage. Quad lasers, for me, at least, have the right balance of firing rate and damage per hit. They do have a pretty heavy energy draw, though. Can't go on an extended shooting spree without running out of energy, even when you're in laser recharge mode.

My Co-pilot has the ability to repair my ship, so if you fly smart you can take a missile hit without getting killed. Now if I could only fly smart...

Ok, I am just a shitty pilot. I still think it is a good addition to the game though. It doesn't really feel like PvP.

It opened up to free players, if anyone wants to check it out.

ON a side note. Started Bounty Hunter. Rocket Punch is awesome...LOL

Rocket Punch is the reason I played my Bounty Hunter for 20 levels.

BEsides GSF being open for Free to Play, they also added a new type of Flashpoint called "Tactical Flashpoint". The first one is called Kuat Drive Yards (KDY), and it has you defending (or taking) one of the main ship build/repair depots.

It accessible for any level from 15+ via groupfinder, and the tactics are such that traditional Tank/Heals/DPS/DPS groups are not required. You can do it with any mix of four roles.

There is no Hard Mode version of it at this time

Has anyone tried this FP yet? I haven't, but I am certainly curious. I wonder how good an alternative it is to questing/grinding, as far as XP goes.

I've done it several times on level 55's with guild mates.

I've not tried it with lower level (you have to use groupfinder pre-55).

The good:
  • Anyone (any class/role) that is level 15+ can form up a group, and for the most part, be successful.
  • The areas within the mission are variable, so it's different every time. There are rare bosses that can spawn in some scenarios.
  • The experience gain is terrific for lower levels. I've read (unverified) accounts of people getting a full level from it. Many expect a nerf before the next Double XP weekend.
  • It seems to be repeatable (no lockout at all).
  • For my first few times through, it was unique and fun. There is a fairly simply puzzle involved
  • New art and graphics are pretty terrific. The scenery inside and out is pretty fantastic

The bad:
  • Other than small amount of coin and vendor loot, there are no drops at all, including bosses (at least not that I've seen)
  • The only boss drops are the reputation items (reputation itself, and the currency used for the vendor), and the only thing you can buy is the stuff that is available from the reputation vendor (a pretty unique mount and some legacy bound armor shells).
  • The difficulty level of the final boss is much higher than the scenarios leading up to it, so if you have a bad PUG group, you might not know it until you fail on the boss.
  • There is no 'Hard Mode'. I've heard that this may be coming.

As far as difficulty goes, if you've done the CZ-198 (Heroic) flashpoints, these are similar (by my experience at level 55). Difficulty supposedly varies depending on the boss scenario you get.

If you do them on lower level or undergeared characters, you will get a 'Bolster' buff (but nothing to compensate for lack of skills/skill tree upgrades at lower levels).

Edit: here is Dulfy's guide. Spoilers Ahoy!

I never could get into my Bounty Hunter. I played her to level 20 or so, but it just never drew me in. Maybe because I had just finished leveling a Trooper to 55. Not sure. I should probably give her another chance. Or maybe I should try Powertech instead of Mercenary.

Meanwhile, I've been having a blast with my Gunslinger (46) and my Operative (26). I've never killed things so fast before, hahaha. Really enjoying these classes, and the Agent storyline has been spectacular, so far.

I am in chapter three of the Agent story. It is great. I went sniper, I do a little happy dance when I kill stuff in one shot.

Powertech-Shieldtech was a blast to level. It was nice being able to run with a dps companion. And if I wanted to solo some insane content, I could switch to a healer instead. Right now my level 50+ hunter is running with HK-57. It is a great combo.

I still say the Imperial Agent story is the best of all of them (and that is saying something). And since it has a pretty wide variety of ending scenarios, leveling more than one isn't as tedious as some of the others.

I still wish they had found some way to make Bounty Hunters and Smugglers faction neutral. From a role play standpoint, my BH's and Smugglers had zero interest in politics at all, and had no allegiance towards anything but getting paid. The little ceremony/parade at the end of the Smuggler story was a tad uncomfortable. :p

Yea, I didn't care for the end of the Smuggler story line. Don't get me wrong, I love the character but...meh. Once I was done with his class quest, I looked away.

Although I'm not playing SWTOR, I tend to be of this persuasion as well. I usually value high alpha strike over strict DPS.

Finished the Agent story line. Damn good. It didn't grab me like the Jedi Knight but yea, it was good.

My Sage is 31 and my Bounty Hunter is 22 or so. Once I finish those two I will start on the Sith classes.
