If it went down with the hull intact, it would break apart or surface (planes are full of air and buoyant). If it broke apart on impact, there would be floating debris. If it went down on the surface, mostly intact, filled with water and sank, ok. No debris.

his contention was if it went down nose first at speed like flight 93, it would break up so much, the debris field would be hard to spot. I seem to remember when they were trying to piece 93 together them talking about big the debris radius was and how small some of parts were. There would be an oil slick, but its size would be dependent on how much fuel was left at the time
