This seems like an inexpensive way to get pretty much everything on your PC up on the screen.

I have a PC laptop, PC desktop, IPad, Android phone, etc - all of which can run Chrome. Supposedly, if you run chrome you can show your browser on your TV through an HDMI port. $35.

Anyone tried this? Is there a better way to do this? I'd prefer to find an app that just shows my screen on the TV. This would enable other programs not housed in Chrome.

Thoughts?

Doesn't need to be in chrome, the application just needs to have Chromecast support. For example, Plex on android and screencast videos to your TV.

It's a great, cheap device for any non-smart TV.

You can 'cast' a tab in Chrome to the device, but I don't find using it that way particularly satisfying. It seems a little laggy when used this way.

Where the chromecast really shines is when using it in combination with one of the supported apps on a tablet or smartphone to find the content you want to play and then re-directing the stream to your TV.

Here is the current list of supported apps.

Its too bad Amazon decided they needed to fragment the market further. With Amazon video, the CC would be perfect.
