Sounds like life has bonked him around a fair amount. As long as you aren't using anything more powerful than the abandoned orc shovel he should be fine.

Saw a neurosurgeon last week about my back. I'm screwed. I have an old L5 injury that's messing up my left leg and nothing can be done to correct it.
Looks like I'll eventually lose the use of that leg
