Quote:
Officers had been there since Mr Assange sought asylum to avoid extradition to Sweden over a rape allegation, which he denies.
The cost of the police presence is estimated to have been more than £12m.
The Met said the round-the-clock presence was "no longer proportionate".
However the force also said it would be deploying "a number of overt and covert tactics to arrest him".

About time! I could hardly believe they were still guarding him this long.

Hopefully this will entice him to leave the embassy, and they can nab him.

It says right in the article that he's aware he will still be arrested if he leaves the embassy.

True, but they aren't wasting large amounts of police resources now.

Yeah, maybe he'll get bold. It's funny how he's avoiding prison by staying confined in the embassy. I know the embassy =/ prison, but still.

The people waiting to arrest him are traitors and should be hung. The people assigning them to do so should be hung first.

I'm sure the British are terribly concerned with your terrible opinions of what constitutes treason in their country.

The UK doesn't even want to prosecute Assange, they just want to deport him to Sweden to face charges there. Even if that rape charge turns out to be trumped up, that's not the UK's fault.

he could leave the embassy in a diplomatic car, and board a diplomatic flight. They are just as protected, legally, as the embassies themselves are.

Assuming Ecuador is willing to go this far for him. If they haven't done this so far, they probably aren't going to.
