Ditto, though convincing my wife to rewatch I & II at all will take some serious work. And possibly bribes.

Machete Order skips I altogether. (That's why it's called machete - chop chop.)

IV, V, II, III, VI.

"Machete" in this case refers to the blog that came up with the idea (nomachetejuggling).

Wasn't excited about the movie at all but the newest trailer looks pretty awesome. Is this going to be like Empire Strikes Back for the Jedi? I'd like to see the Empire/Sith in shambles at the end of one of these damn movies.

The Empire should be in shambles at the beginning of this movie. It's 30 years after RotJ... the remnants of the empire should be scarce.

If the smartphone game "Star Wars Uprising" is any indicator, the Empire has been doing a ton of PR and sweeping-under-the-rug of just how much of a blow they were given. Which leads me to believe that's why Han is telling folks that "it's true."

It's probably difficult to displace such an established and powerful entity like the Empire. Especially one that ruled through fear. Fear can make a lot of folks unwilling to take risks and believe any lies you tell them.

Goin' tomorrow night at a more reasonable hour. I don't have the time off to spare to do midnight shows anymore.

Yeah, I'm going at 7 pm tomorrow night. Taking my 11 year old daughter with me. If I was going by myself, I might have gone to the midnight showing, but I couldn't go without her. She's as excited as I am, about the movie. :D

The LA Times said it was uneven, but when it was good, it was really good. My wife's cousin's wife :? is a member of one of the big cosplay units out here, and went to see it Monday night. I'm pretty sure she liked it.

191 reviews in, it's sitting at 95% on RT, with an average rating of 82% among the critics as a whole.

What's interesting is that the 10 "negative" reviews don't drop below 2.5 stars out of four. So the haters don't really hate, they just weren't wowed. However, hardly anybody who liked it is giving it 100% "OMG WOW!" reviews, either. It's sitting solidly on "This was really, really fun."

So, I feel like there's a lot to talk about, rant about, argue, and discuss, and I can definitely see why the cast has been exhorting their fans to let others experience it fresh and unspoiled.

As such, I'm starting a new SPOILERY thread to allow parallel discussions without alternating back and forth and crossing the streams inadvertently.

In here, though, I'll say that I enjoyed the evening -- I was glad to see it with an opening night Star Wars audience, I was shocked that they were seating the theater 3 hours (!!!) before showtime (so no line for us), and I got to see it with a group of good friends.

There are definitely words I feel need to be said to Mr. Abrams about the execution, but regardless of how I feel about the whole of the movie after thinking on it a bit and digesting it, I think I'll feel like there's the groundwork and foundation for a Star Wars story to be told, here, in a way that I don't recall The Phantom Menace prompting.

My work rented out an entire theater for this thing. They are seeing it today.

However, I am not joining them. I promised my wife months ago that I wouldn't watch it for the first time without her. And she made it clear of all the promises I make, this one is in the top three. I tried my best to get them to let her come along, even with other coworkers offering their ticket (since they couldn't go). I was met with very hard "no's."

Then late in the day yesterday I'm told they're relaxing on their policy. Assholes. Yeah, she can't do last minute changes like that. Other workplaces aren't quite so flexible.

So I am just staying home today. Maybe I'll get to see it in a week or so. I feel like I need to "go dark" when it comes to the internet though. People are either purposefully monkeyf***s or ignorant and careless monkeyf***s when it comes to releasing spoilers into the world. My wife is already upset that coworkers couldn't stop talking about it around her and have already spoiled things.

Don't avoid the internet. Just get Force Block.

Just to be contrary ... so bad. Almost The Phantom Menace bad.

So, after reflection (and a machete rewatch prior to The Force Awakens), I think my ranking of the Star Wars film fall thusly:

A New Hope (YEAH I SAID IT)
TIE (fighter): The Empire Strikes Back / The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi (Jedi and Sith are very, very close)
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace

Jedi really fell in the rewatch. So much of it is just really poorly done (I'm not talking about Ewoks. They're fine. I'm talking about the massive failure of director Richard Marquand to handle even the simplest of human interactions. See Han and Lando saying goodbye to each other at the commencement of the mission for Exhibit A. He appears to have been totally overwhelmed by the sets, costumes, and special effects. Also, Harrison Ford could not possibly give a worse performance for three-quarters of the film's runtime.). And there's a great movie in Sith that is trying desperately to get out, encumbered though it is by the absolute lack of charisma exhibited by any actor other than McDiarmid (the only actor in the prequels to give a legitimately good performance), and buried by the leaden seriousness of its script. Christensen is excellent...so long as he doesn't open his mouth. Had he been able to give a totally silent performance, he'd have been brilliant.

And just to be clear: there's a biiiiiiiiig gulf between Jedi and Clones in that list up top.

You didn't like Macgregor in the prequels? As far as I'm concerned, he's about the only reason to watch most of it.
