So my wife and I will be embarking on a new adventure on Memorial Day weekend. We are moving to Birmingham Alabama. My corporate office is located there: and it behooves me to no longer be here where I am out of site, out of mind from the company. We are both scared and excited. We have no ties to the area other than my coworkers, and both of us are leaving behind many friends and some family members.

This represents the first time either of us are making a move this large without being in our teens and having family members plan the move. It is a bit frightening.

You know how Vegas is a dry heat? Yeah, Birmingham isn't. Try not to die during your first summer.

But seriously, good luck in your endeavor. Boldly go.

Good luck. Relocating isn't as bad as it seems, but the first time CAN be jarring.

At last you will understand the power of humidity.

I was in Birmingham for 4 days a year and a half ago. It was a nice city; people were pleasant and agreeable and prices were pretty good.

Chattanooga, TN. We have (had? I think they might have all moved) friends in B'ham. Phe's family is in Huntsville and mine is about an hour south of Montgomery.

I can highly recommend making friends via roller derby.

Well then hopefully one day we can convince you and the Mrs. to come down for dinner

You won't be far from Kate and Nitefox, if memory serves me. I'm a bit farther down the road :)

Make sure you have plenty of shirts if you are outside. Bring an extra with you. You will sweat buckets in the hot months.....which is most of the year. Summer is brutal down South, and the mosquitoes will carry you away. Seriously, don't live near water or have lots of thicket near your home. Mosquitoes are the devil down here. Bastids.

Right now as the plan sits: we will be leaving on Memorial Day weekend. Either a 2 day or 3 day trip. We will be going pretty much straight along the 40 (?).
To Flagstaff, then Albuquerque, then Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Memphis then on to Birmingham.

If we do a two day drive... we will get out there on memorial day, and need to go sign a lease on tuesday.

If we do three days: we will get there on Tuesday after the office for the apartments closes... and then need to go sign on Wed.

An alternate plan is to leave on Saturday the 29th and take the three day drive getting there by Monday. If we choose this option: i will need an extra day off of work.

You have 2 drivers. 2 days is plenty. ;)
Vegas to Amarillo
Amarillo to Bham.

Done. ;)

Also, exceeding the posted speed limit helps.
