Really, really enjoyed this. It was great fun, even if it feels like there's probably a more complete film sitting around some editor's station somewhere. If it doesn't hold the place in my heart that the original does, that's to be expected, as virtually nothing else could. But I thought it was a blast, and beautiful to boot (I seriously adore the ghost effects and bold colors of the cinematography). The performances were strong all the way around, but Kate McKinnon in particular is a **** superstar. It was fun, funny, silly and creepy, just like a Ghostbusters film should be.
The best part though was finding out while exiting the theater that it connected with my wife on the same cellular level that the original connected with me. As soon as the credits rolled, she tried to get me to go immediately buy tickets for the next showing (I didn't, as we both had work today...but we are going again on Saturday). Pokémon has been her biggest thrill since she was a kid, and Pokémon Go was a life's goal for her. She's planned a cross-country trip with her friends, meticulously planned her trainer outfit, the whole nine yards.
Upon exiting the theater, she said "Well...****. Now I don't know if I want to be a Pokémon trainer or a Ghostbuster."
Makes me a little more excited to see it. Too many of these old franchises have been mangled by Hollywood.
