Hrm. I'm not sure. I know they get recycled at some point, but I also know that my hosting provider constantly bugs me about domains I've let lapse (intentionally) well past their expiration date. I don't know how long they hold onto them.

There's generally only about a 7-day hold on the domain, I think. Have you tried calling Dash? His phone number is listed on the whois record.

Dash's autorenewal of the domain failed, probably because his credit card expired. It took a few days to contact him, so I had to shuffle things around temporarily, but we got it all cleared up. Once the transfer lockout period ends, he is going to transfer the domain to me, and I will maintain it from then on.
