Cynicism alert:

We don't get decent people that want to be president because decent people don't want power - by the time they get to the point where they can actually be elected, they're part of the system, so thoroughly steeped in it that they've ceased being decent people.

Power corrupts, etc.

And the balkanization of America means that people that want to get elected are preying on that, encouraging that. If you don't get what you want, it's because the Evil Other Guys made it so.

That's just a platitude that essentially makes the problem unsolvable.

Dwight Eisenhower was a decent man - just as an example.

The fact is that too much cynicism and too much negative press (from all corners) means decent people do not wish to subject themselves to political life, for the most part.

The problem is unsolvable. Government means corruption and abuse and degeneration.

As long as the 'solution' involves government one is forcing it to be so.

I think we also define an unreasonably high bar for decency. Nobody is perfect. Churchill was a drunk. Decency should be how you manage the country, not necessarily your personal failures - though clearly with out a track record how you judge someone's likely behaviour is tricky

Keep in mind that this is what people consider informed and reasoned opinion.

Which part?

The part that wants to flush every last politician in washington and start over with good, educated, people that want to help the citizens of the country?

Or the nerds part?

What makes you think there are objectively good educated people, and politicians as two separate divided identifiable classes?

Do you want a pet unicorn too?

I am pretty sure that most people that meet the criteria you want are looking at the self-important spurge of uninformed nonsense that most of the public engages in and are saying "lol **** you".

The only people moral enough to be in government are anarchists at heart.

Trump's undoubtedly losing at this point, but you know your poll is cooked against him when MSNBC calls you out for it.

The only people truly qualified to lead would never accept the job.

The only best choice is to demand new candidates.
