Now mean income would be heavily skewed if the ultra rich are averaged with the middle class and I've not verified the source so read with a grain of salt

The result of primary votes isn't really applicable to the general election. The total number of primary voters for both Clinton and Trump combined is less than 9% of the population. Also, the selection bias is extreme, it's only counting the people that have the time, energy, and desire to actually deal with registering for and voting in a primary election. Would you trust this article if it was basing its figures off of a CNN or Fox News website poll? Either would reach about as many people, and the selection bias would be nearly as bad.

That was, indeed, an article from May 2016 - and has been overtaken by the actual election results.

Nate silver is busy trying to rebuild his own credibility - and he's got a strong argument for it given that Trump's own campaign had itself with a 30% win chance when Silver had them at 29%. Nevertheless , the "alcoholic" graphic I posted illustrates just how many articles like this he posted. The only reason Silver didn't make a fool of himself (and he didn't; he was merely wrong. I think almost all of us here predicted a Clinton victory as well) was that he did not allow his bias to affect his actual statistical analysis. Silver clearly favored Clinton, but he did not sacrifice his intellectual integrity to his principles.

In that regard, he deserves praise because he was much more in the land of reality than the polsters putting Trump at <10%, and he's not in the disgraceful position of the New York Times, unable to put out a dignified headline the day after the election, and now promising publicly to be "honest" in the future. This is evidently after a storm of outrage from readers (rightly) asking how in the **** after predicting 2% or so chance for Trump and telling us in 3 or 4 editorials a day how Trump sucks, could this have happened?

What was once the greatest newspaper in the world is reduced to abasing itself and grovelling before the public for forgiveness after having made complete fools of themselves.

Fabricating hate crimes in the wake of the election. Imagine that.

I thought uneducated people were the Trump supporters?

Since protestors need to really focus on who they're being told to attack (it's really too indiscriminate at the moment), the narrative needs to be defined much better.

True story:

My sister is a rabid progressive and posted on Facebook about how horrible it is that Trump appointed the "anti-semite" Steve Bannon a role in his administration. This is the same sister that argues that the Jews are persecuting Palestinians and that the land truly never should have been awarded to the Jews by the UN. (update: it's a talking point at dailykos ... go figure. Gosh, the hypocrisy is strong in this one)

She's refusing to come to the family Thanksgiving 'cause it's at my house. Surprisingly, I'm good with that.

Steve Bannon is an anti-Semite because his ex-wife testified claimed he was during a court case 10 years ago in which she had a financial stake against him. Truly, he is the second coming of Himmler.

I've never heard of him before. Pictures of him look kinda rough. Made me think that Trump was taking the "jobs for the working man" a bit too seriously. Joe the plumber is probably a great guy, but I don't want him appointed Secretary of State.

I'm not a fan of Breitbart (I find their material to generally be crap) but he's going to be a strategist - he's not occupying a Congressionally-confirmed slot like State or Defense. The guy does indeed look like a scumbag.

That said, most of the criticism of the alt-right is hyperliteral nonsense intended to keep the narrative of rampant racism alive. The vast majority of that "racism" is 19 year olds giving people the vapors for the lulz - not all, but the vast majority.

Reading up on what this guy stands for, or what people are saying he stands for, it's not a stretch to imagine that his presence will really unsettle a lot of people. Frankly, the far left and the far right both frighten me, the far left frighten me for what they might do to the future, the far right, for what they might do today.

I really had no other choice in this election and I'm taking a gamble that a) republicans will contain any insanity and b) being a business man, Trump will do what I believe businessmen always do - sell. They sell the **** out of stuff like it's in their DNA. Always selling, always trying to make their shareholders a profit. Since "we the people" are the shareholders, I'm cautiously optimistic.

He actually unsettles me a bit too, but I also want to see how he does once he gets a shave and a haircut and a tie. Appearances matter, subconsciously.

Also, unsettling people a bit is not bad. Part of the reason for all of this is sheer frustration with unwritten rules. If a bunch of DC business-as-usual types have to suck it down and deal with this guy, that in and of itself is good.

Everyone is getting an object lesson here - the vote is, in fact, a check. It's rarely exercised, but when you finally piss people off that they use it, you find yourself appeasing a guy that' you'd dismissed as running a half-serious news website. DC reptiles need that. I don't know if this guy will even last, but in the meantime he serves a purpose.

This is what I did, primarily because it didn't matter in Texas, but it DID matter if he got to 5%.. sadly AFAIK he didn't. I just wanted a 3rd podium next time.

Oh, it is. I have been promised for a good year that this man will just nuke someone for no good reason. If Botswana* is not a smoking hole in the ground within 24 hours of inauguration I will not vote for him in 2020.

*I have no particular beef with Botswana; any insignificant country will do.

Jesus Christ. Will one of the grown-ups please take away Trump's Twitter account?

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to defend his transition efforts after The New York Times reported the process is in disarray.
The failing @nytimes story is so totally wrong on transition. It is going so smoothly. Also, I have spoken to many foreign leaders.

I'm not sure what you're objecting to. Transparency? Or disagreeing with the press?

I was bouncing around the internet the other day and read an old story saying that Obama considers the interview with Jon Stewart to be his toughest. I agree with Trump about the media if that's what you're basing your dissatisfaction on. A comedian is your toughest interviewer? Really?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/1 ... 69092.html?

Here's Stewart on his value as a journalist:
Jon Stewart wrote:
People would like to place a standard on our show that doesn't exist. We're not set up for reporting; we don't have an apparatus for that. We're discussing things that hopefully people might get something out of, but it's wildly inconsistent. Just because we hit on points that resonate, or people think are real complaints—that doesn't make us journalists.

http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/16/media/d ... index.html
Quote:
"It is unacceptable for the next president of the United States to travel without a regular pool to record his movements and inform the public about his whereabouts," the White House Correspondents Association said in response.

http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/15/media/m ... index.html
Quote:
"For Trump to come after me the way he did, was unprecedented in modern American politics," Kelly told Dr. Phil.
"And I hope that this isn't a situation where now the dam has been broken and now it's fair game, and others feel free to do it. I fear it is," she said.
Kelly added, "The way he targeted me was meant to send a message to other journalists out there: You come after me, I'll come after you. And I think that can lead to a change in coverage. That can endanger the way these reporters report the news."

Sounds like the press feel that he's their punching bag and resent when he punches back. He's changed the way things are, he campaigned on doing just that and he is. I'm pleased. I found that quote I bolded from Kelly particularly illuminating.

My objection is that engaging in Twitter fights and petty insults is beneath the dignity of the President.

There's a difference between a comedy bit and one's real life behavior.

But yeah that one is just painful. :psyduck:

President-elect

I don't disagree. However, given the juvenile tantrums the press has engaged in for the past year over Trump, and the fact that the NYT specifically had to send out a letter begging forgiveness - and then continues running a barrage of negative stories (I haven't seen one yet that's even neutral, much less positive), it's hardly fair to talk about "the adults in the room." The mainstream press destroyed its own credibility already. If they're going to continue to freak out over press access and the First Amendment as well while continuing to try to disguise naked partisanship as "honest" journalism I can deal with a certain amount of cringeworthy tweeting, especially pre-Inauguration.

The freakout about him going out to dinner is a perfect example. If they want to freak out about press access, they had best understand that partisanship needs to be confined to the opinion pages. Transition in ANY organization is difficult. Just a change of command at the company level involves a lot of legwork of getting documents re-signed, hand receipts changed, etc. (I did it twice, and oversaw it more times after that); it's going to look disorganized at the Presidential level no matter what. Freaking out that he went a few blocks to dinner is unseemly at best, at this early stage.

Probably he didn't want salty tears in his baked potato.

HOLY **** LACK OF TRANSPARENCY! WE DON'T KNOW IF HE HAD A NEW YORK STRIP OR A RIBEYE! TRUMP ALREADY VIOLATING ELECTION PROMISES NOT HAVING T-BONE LIKE REAL AMERICAN!

If this is what they're going to behave like, little less-than-dignified behavior is less of a concern.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Trump will attempt to turn the US into one huge luxury hotel/resort property... like change the US from a 2 star hotel to a 5 star hotel, so to speak. Not sure how much he can get done though due to the separation of powers in government and red tape.

Not everyone can afford to live in a 5 star hotel. Also, not everyone wants to live in an ostentatious gold-plated shithole ;)

Still sad for the country.

The cabinet picks sounds like an A- Team of elite looters and government haters.

Taskiss, that's like buying a dog with rabies hoping he will only bite the people you don't like.
