I agree, SO glad they never let Brett Ratner take a huge dump all over the franchise. Bullet dodged!

Conversely, Logan was amazing, loved it. Glad we're moving into the post-modern era of superhero films.

I suspected that too, but then I remembered that none of them were that great. So I couldn't understand why the 3rd one got singled out as more dookie.

I feel like the first one was, like Spider-Man 1 and 2, pretty good at the time, but has NOT aged gracefully.

Spider-Man 2 is still one of the better superhero flicks.

This. Just like there's 5 Star Wars Movies, and 1 Highlander.

Hmmm.

I'm debating whether to argue there are 6 SW movies.

There are so many good reasons to both love and hate one of your nonexistent movies, and I've always been torn on which way to go with it.

I forgot about Rogue One. As I haven't seen it, it hasn't formed a niche in my consciousness.

So, there are *6* SW movies, not 5. ;)

Wait, you're counting The Ewok Movie?

Mus is referring to the hypothetical movies "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones." Literary experts have long theorized that these movies (Often simply referred to as "Episode I" and "Episode II") must exist, based on the positioning of other Star Wars movies, as well as new discoveries such as Rogue One, and smaller dwarf-movies in the form of animated television shows, but they have not been able to detect them. This could be because they are black holes of despair, bad acting, unlikely coincidence and melodrama.

I believe that Revenge of the Sith sits right on the edge of becoming the same type of phenomena, as well.

This.

For its flaws, "The Ewok Movie" is still a pretty good SW movie. Not the best, but overall, a solid B grade.

TPM and AOTC don't grade out higher than "Oh god, why."

(Or perhaps because someone erased them from the archive memory.)

okay, I did not mind 2/3 of the prequels. BUT... TPM was just a high tech remake of Ben Hur with a Jamaican Drunken Master with big ears

AOTC Gave us "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

It can never be forgiven for that.

AOTC gave us much worse than that. BUT... I am still willing to take it as it is TECHNICALLY the second movie of a trilogy, and is by its very nature supposed to be meh at best. Marvel not included.

So awesome how a Marvel thread turned into a Star Wars one. This has to be some kind of high point in Glade history.

I blame Disney. And also Fox for making the rumored Xmen:3 movie that **** up the franchise and necessitated a rebooting.

You're talking about a Star Wars movie. The previous "Second movie of a trilogy" it had to live up to was Empire Strikes Back, universally regarded as the best of the original trilogy.

But... if you look at many other movies; generally the second one kind of comes off as meh. Empire Strikes back is the exception not the rule.

Jaws 2
Matrix Reloaded
Highlander 2
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey
Mimic 2
Jeeper's Creeper's 2
The Exorcist 2: The Heretic
Halloween 2
Speed 2
Weekend at Bernie's 2
The Omen 2
Grease 2
Caddyshack 2
Staying Alive
Mannequin 2
Nutty professor 2
Arthur 2
Nightmare on Elm Street 2
S. Darko
The Fly II

Iron Man II was awesome.
Lethal Weapon II was great.
Star Trek II: Wrath of Ricardo Montleban/Star Trek II: Wrath of Benedict Cumberbatch were both great.
Toy Story II was awesome.

;)

Hmmm. I don't believe I'd go so far as to call it "awesome."

Taking this opportunity to get this thread back to Marvel, if I were to rate all the MCU movies already released (not on a curve - none of the movies have been outright bad, yet) - i'd put IM2 as one of the weaker movies in the franchise ~ which is still better than most movies that hit theaters.

Iron Man (2008) - 9/10
The Incredible Hulk (2008) - 7/10
Iron Man 2 (2010) - 6/10
Thor (2011) - 7/10
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - 9/10
Marvel's The Avengers (2012) - 10/10
Iron Man 3 (2013) - 6/10
Thor: The Dark World (2013) - 6/10
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - 10/10
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - 10/10
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - 8/10
Ant-Man (2015) - 8/10
Captain America: Civil War (2016) - 10/10
Doctor Strange (2016) - 9/10

I only disagree with a couple of these. Overall though, we're in synch. I *hated* CA:1.

If anything, the biggest problem Marvel has right now is that their films are getting very bland. They are maintaining quality by pressing everything through the same filter. Don't get me wrong, I loved Civil War, Dr. Strange, Ant Man. But they are definitely starting to feel like episodes of television as opposed to film. I understand why, they're 200 million dollar movies, they have no interest in taking any sort of risk with that investment. But it does have the side effect of making them mostly forgettable.

Right now I'm mostly excited for Thor:Ragnarok, and that's simply because Taika Waititi did such an incredible job with "What we do in the shadows". They're also supposedly going to inject a bit more 80's sci-fi/fantasy and humor into the film, which sounds perfect for the series.
