This was **** fantastic. I went into it with the meager goal that it would be good in comparison to the three **** movies we've seen so far out of the DCEU, with the fleeting hope that it would be great irrespective of its pedigree. It excelled in every way, shape, form and fashion. It's the full-blooded, rollicking adventure heir apparent of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and that seemingly impossible beast: a DCEU film that A) focuses on characters, not just spectacle; B) has charismatic, magnetic performances with real chemistry between the leads; C) is funny, touching, and not a grim, joyless slog; D) respects the comic characters and doesn't abandon their core, defining characteristics in a misguided, misplaced attempt at being "edgy" and "mature"; and, most importantly, E) actually believes in heroes.

If it was a marvel movie I'd say it was a middle of the road affair. She did excellent as Wonder Woman, but the end had way to much CGI, and the middle dragged quite a bit. Compared to the other DC movies it was one of the greatest movies ever made. Compared to what marvel has produced it was passable.

I'm not trying to bash it by comparing it to Marvel, it's just they have a larger library to compare it to.

It was very, very good. Too bad it's nested in the bland dceu.

Half of them looked great. All the close quarter stuff was good. When she gets out into the open and uses her lasso to take down a group of germans it's all mediocre CGI. The end fight was a mixed bag. Some decent stuff, some CGI garbage.

I loved this as well. I think the best part for me was the casting of Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot seemed to fit the role perfectly.

Every time she smiled, I felt in love a little bit more.

Of course they're gonna look fake. Noone's gonna believe a *woman* can do superhero things without CGI. ;)

Saw it, loved it. Best DC flick so far IMHO.

Yeah.

(Mind you... GotG is still better than WW - but WW is still great. Gal Gadot was perfectly cast, too.)

We loved it. Perfect? No. But exactly what I wanted out of a WW origin story. (Have been spoiled by the Timmverse.)

I have a lot of friends who unexpectedly burst into tears during the No Man's Land full-reveal. They were just sooo happy to see a great female superhero.

I thought there was some gratuitous use of bullet-time that didn't really need to be there, but other than that I was pretty happy with it.

WW suffers from the same thing all DC movies have so far - it takes everything too seriously and the characters have no flaws to deal with/overcome on their path to heroism.

I liked it in spite of it's hubris.

Haha.

Seriously, "no flaws" for Diana? How about:

- Extreme naïveté about everything in society, so extreme that not only could she not function in 1918 England, but people accompanying her could hardly function while trying to overcome her gaffes to which she remained blissfully oblivious.
- Single-minded, prideful and stubborn -- pursues an enemy she erroneously believes to be the cause of all war on Earth and it's not even the right guy. (Not that he didn't deserve it, but she even executed a man over a case of mistaken identity.)

Going back to the naïveté - the real villain was hiding right in front of her and she never recognized him, thanks to both of the above.

She's a goddess, unaware. That's more of a condition than a flaw. So is ignorance. And I did touch on hubris. They're just not really complex characters, in my opinion.

The flaws I'm referring to are flaws in the sense that people in general are flawed, and in particular how MCU characters flaws are portrayed, like Tony Stark, Scott Lang, Peter Quill (he slept with an Aaskvarian for crying out loud!) and such. Flawed characters that pretty much triumphed in spite of their flaws, and never really overcome the flaws, at least in how the origin stories are presented. With the exception of Cap, they're anti-Mary Sue's, and still have a sense of humor about them.

I think people can relate to those types of characters better than the DCEU's gods among men, and I know I do. Batman is about the only character I can think of that someone can relate to on a personal level and he's emotionally unavailable at best. The TV series are much better in my opinion than the movies, as far as that goes. I'm fairly interested in the Spider Man story, but not at all in Aquaman. The Flash could be good.... I wouldn't have gone to see Wonder Woman if my kids didn't encourage me to go, but I'm glad I did, just because it's looking like a long time till the next move I'm interested comes out. Black Panther I'll pass on, Valerian is a "meh", Thor is a must-see, as is Avengers Infinity Wars. There's like 5 months between Spider Man and Thor.

Compare apples to apples.

She was more entertaining than the last two stand-alone Thor movies (Marvel's God among men.) I like Thor just fine, but WW was better.

This is coming from someone who has always preferred Marvel to DC when it comes to style. In general, I agree with your points above when referencing the larger DC universe.

There are many flaws in the human condition, but my favorites to watch on screen in fantasy movies are the consequences of egotism and self destructive behaviors.

Marvel has made those human flaws into several movies now. They don't need a bad guy, they invent him in one movie, then egotism causes some of them to assume that, as smart as they are, others who aren't as smart are more likely to make mistakes, so they (half of them, anyway) have to submit to being managed in another movie.

Not so much in the DCEU. Thor is one of the worst Marvel has to offer, but even he has flaws. Big bad rock guy walks up, he smacks him into gravel. His brother being responsible for his mother's death? Give him a pass, put him in a cell. That, and his brother continuously fakes him out. And that's the worst of Marvel's line-up for gods in this particular machine.

Superman? He's gotta have a sunburn from as many times as he's been exposed to kryptonite, and that's what he gets thrown in his face, time after time. The others haven't really been represented except for Batman, and as much as I like every batman movie ever, the character isn't really relatable. The bad guys are more interesting (nod to Heath).

I don't let it get to me though, I love each and every one for what they are... I loved Green Lantern, for instance. "...let those who worship evil's might, beware my power-Green Lantern's light!" speaks to the kid in me. The worst super hero or science fiction is better than any other movie in any other genre.

I just call them as I see them, I don't fault what others see in them. Wonder Woman is good, but didn't give me the same feeling as a cheesy line in an acknowledged sucky movie.
