Tom "Schroedinger" Petty cannot currently be confirmed to be alive or dead.

So crazy. I've been listening to him most of my life. He will be missed for sure.

That was an absolute joke of a display of journalistic standards.

Welcome to 2017. Journalistic standards now consist of "how outraged can you be over Donald Trump's latest tweet and/or the outraged responses to them?"

Yes, you would get a much stronger reaction to the false reports of Tom Petty being dead (or not dead) if Donald Trump had tweeted about it.

I like to think Tom Petty transcends political boundaries.

I think you forgot "...and no other topic is worthy of serious journalistic attention."

DE, There are still serious journalists in major media?

I was referring to the significance of the attention paid, not the quality of the journalists themselves.

That's primarily because journalists don't actually exist. All journalist means is a person who is above some loosely-understood threshold of people listening to or income derived from that person stating what they think.

Really, anyone with a Facebook account could be called a "journalist".
