Led Zeppelin is "metal"?


This is the one time I'll disagree with this criticism of Marvel films. The score (by Mark Mothersbaugh, of Devo fame) was weird and quirky and still epic, while mixing in synth and other oddities. I quite liked it, and I never notice, remember or care about Marvel scores.

They're fairly widely regarded as at least one of the inspirational bands, yes.

No, I get that, it's just that I've never once thought of them as being part of that genre, because they so specifically typify hard rock to me. My brain just finds it a weirdly alien concept, like someone who's never seen the arrow in the FedEx logo.

I'm with you FarSky, I can see where some might consider some of their work in that Genre, I mostly thinks of them as a Blues Rock. Many of their songs are ripoffs of classic blues tunes that they put their own (harder) spin on, so I've always associated them more with Blues than Metal.

As far as the movie goes, I enjoyed it (I'm fairly easily entertained though).

Some of the attempts at humor seemed a bit forced or poorly timed, but generally speaking, I liked it. Definitely my favorite of the Thor movies.

Finished the Punisher, it was okay. Too long but okay. There were a couple things that bothered me about it.

I've given up on the Netflix Marvel shows. The writing is almost always terrible.

Honestly, it is better than some of the other Netflix stuff. It is hell of a lot better than both Luke Cage and Iron Fist. It is highly depressing. I am not a huge Punisher fan.

Is anyone watching Runaways or The Gifted?

No on The Gifted, and we...were, on Runaways, but as it steadfastly remains Marvel’s Parents, with Occasional Guest Stars, Their Children Who Never Run Away, we've drifted off. Phe is an immense fan of the OG comics (we both are, but they're probably her favorite comics of all time), but when episode 5 opened on a younger...Alex's dad, whatever his name is (Geoffrey, maybe?), with a legend that read "18 Years Ago", she rolled her eyes and shouted "OH MY GOD I DON'T CARE".

Legion's amazing, though.

We have 1 more episode to watch out of the original 10, and that's clearly where they actually run away.

The Gifted has its moments. At least the supporting characters are pretty well known (Blink, Polaris, Thunderbird), and others have some ties to characters in the comics. Yes, the main two kids (the Strucker siblings) are kinda annoying, but I'll watch Amy Acker in just about anything. (Not spoiling anything from the later episodes.)

I've been catching up on my DVR backlog and enjoying The Gifted a lot. I never thought I'd see Blink on-screen, and Polaris was a bit of a surprise, too. So yay for that. Heck, they've even done a good job with making Thunderbird interesting to watch despite not having flashy powers. I enjoyed Sean Teale (playing Eclipse here) a lot in Incorporated, and it's nice to see Coby Bell (Jace/Jesse from Burn Notice) get another good role from Matt Nix. And yeah, Amy Acker all day.

I kind of like Runaways. I had never read the comics, I knew nothing about it other than Joss did a run on it. When I get tired of gaming on Friday nights I have been watching it. It isn't bad.


Edit: Based on what Kaffis said, I took in the first two episodes of The Gifted. The one girl looks way too much like the cheerleader from Heroes. It is distracting. That being said, what I saw was freaking great. I am looking forward to seeing more.

I don't have that much energy. I liked Black Panther. That being said, it might have just been the theater I was in but the jungle fight in the beginning of the film was hard to follow. It was too dark.

I thought Shuri was sort of an insufferable brat, but otherwise it was good. I enjoyed Ragnarok more, but at this point I see these movies as episodes in a series.

Not as political as the people gushing over it in reviews. I find it a little offensive to call every white person a "colonizer." YMMV. I don't see how that's any less demeaning an epithet than any other.

I mean...I liked it? It sits somewhere around the middle of the Marvel batch to me (#11 out of 18, for those keeping score at home). It was good, but it didn't do for me what it obviously did for a great number of people. But some things just aren't made for me.

I loved Shuri, and Jordan as Killmonger. The Tolkien white guys, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman, were obviously having a blast. Boseman is excellent as Black Panther, though he has to play a very grounded, and thus more inert, character for the vast majority of the movie. The action set pieces were excellent, some of the best seen in a Marvel film, and thankfully, the climax didn't revolve around a Devil's Anus in the sky. All in all, I enjoyed it, but not a whole lot stuck with me past exiting the theater. Also, Wakanda needed to be more of a character.

I do count Killmonger as one of the few interesting MCU villains, though. He joins Loki, Hela and...well, that's about it for film villains that intrigue me. Kingpin and Kilgrave in the Netflix stuff were great, but I'm finding myself increasingly divorced from that ****.

Just finished Jessica Jones season 2.

Thoughts:
Man, they have botched Patsy Walker's character. (I love Hellcat. I had high hopes.)

Krysten Ritter is amazing in this role. She goes from hard to completely broken in the blink of an eye.

It's like The Defenders didn't happen. No mention of it at all.
