I fully expect for every other major studio to cut a deal like this in short order. Does anyone feel like this is going to boost Blockbuster subscriber rates?

This is unfortunate, but since the studios injunction against Redbox, I've felt it coming.

I suspect that Blockbuster will be in the same situation. It sounds like this opens up more movies to Netflix to show via the internet, which is the way of the future, so it's probably smart on Netflix's part.

On one hand, I think this is a good idea because I use instant view Netflix a lot and even though I pay for the service, I have never ordered a DVD in the mail.

On the other hand, I can't help but think that if I really want to see a movie, I'm just going to end up downloading it before it becomes available on Netflix - and that's a lose/lose for the companies.

Doesn't bother me one bit. In fact I'm excited about having more "Watch It Now" titles.

From what I read Blockbuster is exempt because the studio gets a cut of each individual rental. I personally don't see this as a downside though, I currently have about 100 movies in queue with Netflix so new releases aren't a pressing issue.

Well of course not, because Canada is the utopian paradise of legal piracy, right? Why allow somebody to run a business on what you steal for free?

I'm certainly interested in seeing how this deal by which Canada will be adopting EU Copyright stuff turns out...

Yeah, because mailed DVDs and DRM-protected video streams are somehow more prone to piracy than Blockbuster rentals! That makes sense! That must be why Netflix isn't here while Blockbuster is!

Yeah if we can get more first runs to watch it now then sounds good. Especially if I get my new pc to hook up to the tv.

Yup, I definitely watch a LOT more things on watch now than rentals, so I'm not upset either.

If they continue this trend, I'll just stop my Netflix account and rent from the local video rental store for a couple bucks. Why spend $20-30 for 1-2 hours of entertainment that probably won't get watched again? I don't see the point in buying dvds/blurays, but that's just me. I used to have a huge collection of pirated/bought dvds, but I don't even watch that stuff anymore. I'll be quite content just renting from the local rental joint.

Netflix doesn't offer enough new releases with their "Watch Now." I really enjoyed it when I didn't have cable, but don't really care at this point. If I can't get my new blu-rays from Netflix, I'll get them somewhere else, and I'm not going to buy it. That's not to say I'm going to pirate it. I'm just going to rent it somewhere else. If I wanted to wait a month to watch a new release, I'd just wait one more on top of that and see it when it becomes available on HBO, which I can DVR.

I haven't had a Netflix DVD sent to my house in probably over a year. To me, the watch it now service makes it more than worth the money. They have expanded it considerably lately, and there are enough TV series on there to keep me busy for a while.

if they get more titles via this WB deal and other like it, I'll be a cappy hamper.
