Yeah, I'm not sure I want to start all over again, though. There were some really retarded fights that made me want to slit my wrist. It kinda sucks fighting at level 30 without fully upgraded weapons and I did consider starting a new character for Insanity...but I'm already this far. Not sure I can stomach it again.

Yeah, definitely would not recommend playing insanity for anyone, ever. If you don't want the achievement, don't bother. It's retarded-hard.

Would rather hit my own dick with a hammer than fight another Krogan on insanity.

I think I might just put it to rest for a while and go back sometime later. I'm just...it is frustrating as all hell. I want the achievement, but I also don't want a rage induced aneurysm.

try using Cryo Rounds or the Avalanche for Krogan or other chargers.
Remember fire stops their regen.

And yes the Collector ship floating platforms was the one fight I gave up on and lowered the difficulty on. Just too much fire from too many directions (though I did have better success if I could get off the starting hex and move to a position where I didn't get flanked by new platforms arriving.

Finished it last night. Absofreakinglutely epic.

The final scene in the ending cutscene has me concerned though. Almost makes me glad

saving the crew

Got through the final mission. anyone know what criteria determines who survives and who doesnt?
All my characters had maxed loyalty. I built every prototype I could find except the Legion's sniper rifle. (Dont think I had Thanes, Samara's, Garrus or Miranda's special)

I chose Thane as my tech specialist and he died, kept Miranda with me. Jacob lead team 2.
Thane was killed at the end of the first split in cutscene.

I chose Miranda to lead the second team on the second split, and Jack was my Biotic. Jacob lead the crew out. Everyone made it through that section.

For the final battle I had Grunt and Miranda.

Mordin was killed offscreen.

So what did I need to do to keep those two alive?

Wrong choice on the fireteam or for the tech specialist means the tech specialist gets splattered - Thane is not a tech specialist, so, because he was assigned as tech specialist, he died. How did you find out that Mordin died? Also, during one segment, if you rush the team, it's likely that someone dies.

Get loyal status for everyone.
Researched the offensive/defensive upgrades for your ship.
Complete all side missions and all resource gathering you want to do BEFORE starting the IFF quest.
Complete IFF quest, get Legion loyal, go after the crew if do too many other quests your non party crew begin to die.



Tali/Legion good for in vents
Garrus/Miranda leading secondary squad
Jack/Samara good for Biotic barrier specialist
Chose option to escort crew back

That should get you everyone survives (crew and party). Obviously that doesn't exhaust the options, I'm sure there are other ways.

On one run-through, I got a cinematic of Mordin lying dead after all was said and done.

Legion in vents, Garrus led the team for me. Samara provided the biotic bubble, Zaeed took the survivors back to the ship. Miranda led the next team for me. Had loyalty for everyone and I didn't buy everyone's personal upgrades(just the ship upgrades). Everyone lived.

If you don't get all of the ship upgrades, then you could lose up to 3 team members before you even make it to the base. Everything else depends on loyalty, how long it takes you to get through certain sections, and the decisions you make about who performs which task.

Legion/Tali for Vent
Miranda/Jacob/Garrus for Fire team leader and/or 2nd team leader (they all have leadership experience)
Samara/Jack for the biotic field
Almost anyone can lead the survivors back (after installing the IFF, you can do 2 more missions before the suicide mission. Any more than that, and you'll start losing crew members)

Also, according to the gamefaqs.com message boards, Mordin has a tendancy to die, regardless of his loyalty. So it might be a good idea to bring him with you on the final fight.

And now that you've beaten the game, you might want to check out youtube for some of the other endings. Saw one last night where everyone except Joker died. Pretty crazy.

I actually made it through my first time without losing anyone. I ended up chosing Tali for the vents, after I had completed the romance with her, and I was scared to death she wouldn't make it. I thought they did an excellent job of building up tension for the entire last hour or so of the game.

I wasn't about to risk Tali in the vents. I figured if I took her with me in my team, she would be as safe as she could be. Plus, I hear she starts crying in the vents as the heat builds up and I'm not sure I could handle that. So, I let the emotionless robot go instead.

By the way, people on your team are NOT SAFE. Bad choices, or lack of medi-gel applications, can and will kill them.

so favorite characters?

I actually really like Miranda. She and Kelly have the 'best' romance scenes for a male Shepard. Tali doesn't do it for me and Jack scares me.

I have trouble with Garrus and Thane as lovers for a female shephard (OK! I'm a Speciest!) So Jacob is also the better choice for a female shephard.


(if people complained about ME1's sex scenes ME2's are more explicit)

I liked Mordin's character though. Thane I found annoying and mopey.

ME2 sex scenes are incredibly tame compared to ME1.

I liked Tali, of course. And Garrus. Mostly because they were with me in the first game and they were the only two characters loyal and understanding enough to join Shepard again. I understand Wrex really couldn't join with Shepard(because he is either dead or leading the Krogan to victory), but Liara and Kaiden/Ashely had no excuse(unless they were dead, of course).

As for new characters, I liked Grunt a lot. Thane was cool and Mordin was hilarious. I also liked Legion, though you get him so late in the game I never really got a chance to use him. The rest of the characters were kinda flat(Jacob and Miranda) or down right unlikeable(Jack). Though, I used Miranda most of the time because mechanically, she is the best squadmate out of all of them with both Overload and Warp. Those two abilities, coupled with her passive skill increasing health and damage for the whole party made her a must have party member.

Zaeed was...interesting. He really didn't seem as fleshed out as the others(you can't even really interact with him after his quest), but the pathetic thing is, he was way more interesting than Jacob. And that is another thing. Jacob is probably the worst all around character in the game(mechanically). Pull, Inferno Rounds and Barrier? Shotguns and Pistols? Horrible choices all around.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention Samara. Probably didn't mention her because she is so god damn forgettable, much like Jacob. But at least her abilities and weapon choices don't completely suck.

Insanity is much more tolerable if you start the game with Barrier, for the first part of the game none of the enemies can use the special abilities that specifically defeat it.

Liara actually has a pretty good reason. Did you delve deep enough into discussions with her?

Liara is the one that gave Shep's body to Cerberus. To do so, she had to steal Shepard's body from the Shadow Broker, who was going to sell the corpse to the Collectors. She feels remorse because Shepard ends up being used by Cerberus and Liara is to blame. Now she feels like she needs to make amends.

Nah, I never talked to her. She kept talking about her new boyfriend and how the Shadow Broker either killed or kidnapped him(she didn't know which). It pissed me off and I was pretty much done with her. Made it a lot easier to romance Tali.

Liara had a very good excuse for acting the way she did. Ashley had no excuse at all. After all we had been through together, and the fact that she was the one I chose to be with in the first one, and she didn't even give me the chance to explain anything. She just saw me with Cerberus and basically told me to **** off. I was pretty pissed about that.

Spoiler:
There is a very specific conversation branch, and it's only available at a certain point in the game. If you get it, you find out that Shepard is the one the Liara is talking about and the reason she's so angry with the Shadow Broker. She hates the Shadow Broker for what he was going to do with Shepard. And she hates herself for giving your body to Cerberus. And she doesn't want to tell you because she's afraid you will hate her, too. Everything she is doing, and has done up to this point is because of Shepard. It sucks that such a crucial plot point is so obscure and hard to get, because it shows just how much she still cares for Shepard. And most people end up missing it altogether.

So I'm devastated right now.

After reaching about 25 hours into this game, I purchased a new Xbox. It's a long story, but let's just say I got a banned console off Craigslist and the guy was an honest guy, to my disbelief. He offered to give me his brand new Xbox in exchange because he felt bad. So after playing 25 hours on the old banned box, I popped in my HD into the new box.

FILE CORRUPTED AND GAMER PROFILE GONE! WTF!!!! I now need to start over. Son of a f'n b!!!
