This is after an hour and a half of snowing. And it's going to be getting heavier this afternoon...

We don't really know how to handle this down here. White stuff starts falling from the sky and all a sudden it's the damned apocalypse. Schools are closed, banks aren't opening, dogs and cats, living together...

It's coming our way (Atlanta) too and supposed to start this afternoon. They are talking about closing down early to let people get home.

Hell even N.C. shuts down, and they get snow almost yearly....I think it's more along the lines of it's a good enough reason to call in sick/shut the state down/take a day off for most of them.

I bet Farsky's loving every snowflake. I think you'd get sick of it fairly quickly if you lived in a climate like I do, though.

Foamy is right. If you can still see occasional bits of grass, it hasn't even started to snow!

(When we stopped in Atlanta on our flight to Miami, there was a little bit of snow on the ground. The city was paralyzed. If you're not used to it, even a little bit is momentous.)

Take ice, you know the stuff the casinos put in drinks to make them cold. Now shave that ice so you get the big piles of fluffy white stuff for that weird drink the kids like so much, sno-cones.

Well, the white stuff in sno-cones is kind of like real snow. Not quite, but close.

Fly up to Reno in the winter, you'll see a lot of it.

;)

Apparently Dallas got about 12.5 inches of snow, which I'm hearing is record snowfall. Between the white Christmas (first time Dallas had snow for Christmas in 50 or so years) and this mess, I'm thinking maybe the tectonic plates shifted north or something.

On the upside:
Subaru WRX AWD: about 25000
Cold weather package (heated seats): about 1500
Morning commute with 4 other cars, all of whom were not in my lane: Priceless

Stay in the rest of the day and cuddle to uhm, stay warm. Much better than trying to drive on that stuff if you haven't had any experience.

Actually, its almost certainly much better than driving, period.

Cars and cuddling to uhm, stay warm can be combined.

Reminds me of high school...

To steal a phrase from a Pemco commercial, that much snow would qualify as "Climactic Armageddon" around here too. I say take Micheal's advice.

Thats at least displaying the minimum amount of snow needed to ahve fun in the snow.

Around here your first picture is not referred to as snow, it is referred to as "a dusting".

The snow stopped at a bit over 3 inches. Ish. Snowball fights and tiny snow sculptures followed the snow ice cream.

Now my feet are cold.

You forgot 4xBridgestone Potenza Blizzaks: $1200

Absolute MONSTERS in hard packed snow.

Yeah not enough snow in Dallas ever to justify a set of snow tires. If my wife has her way we'll eventually be moving to either the east coast of Canada around the Halifax area, or somewhere in the northeast US. There will definitely be a set of Blizzaks on the car for winter then.
