This may seem like an odd question, but:

I was browsing one of the dating sites I subscribe to, and saw this one girl's profile that said she would only send photos showing her full face privately, because she was a teacher and not allowed to show her face on a public domain.

So my question is: Is this some weird by-law that all teachers have to abide by, or most likely just a rule enforced by her particular employer? If so, what reasoning would be behind such a rule? Seems a bit crazy to me.

I teach at a private school and am bound by no such rule.

My guess is that it's more of an embarrassment thing, that she personally just doesn't want to get "caught" by a student or something.

I suspect it is a state or local ordinance, but I would not be surprised to hear that it is true. Today's society has zero tolerance for teachers misbehaving or acting "inappropriately" especially when it might somehow ruin their little preciousn offspring. They also don't feel it prudent to have to pay teachers a decent salary to do so either.

Gorse:

That was my thought as well -- an image protection thing.

Lenas:

I didn't even think about that. She may be doing that out of personal choice.

This

when I got hired, we were given this long speech that if we commit any crime, no matter how minor it could "ruin" the face of the district and that we would be fired. Little harder though when you have tenure. We were told that we are to be roll models in society. Posting inappropriate pictures was not acceptable as well. Oh, and school districts hiring teachers will look for those people, that have inappropriate facebook pictures and they will not hire them. Told that directly by someone who does the hiring for his district.
