Saw this last night... Wasn't sure how I felt when I walked out, still not sure how I feel about the movie.

It didn’t have any special special effects, wasn't psyching me out enough, and the suspense was poorly done. On the other hand, cinematography was great in some parts, the acting was amazing by the actors, and I did jump a couple of times out of my seat. They also left out major plots from the book which I think took away from the movie as a whole.

I felt they could have shortened the story and made it more intense, but at the same time they left out some elements which made it so good in the book.

Prob worth a rental once it’s out on DVD but would not recommend it for cinema viewing.

It was alright; some parts were kind of predictable, others were just WTF is going on.

I think it's one of those movies that require a second viewing. Everything makes so much more sense if you know the ending.

It was very meh to me. I probably would've preferred it as a rental. Not scary at all.

I must be confused. Why would anyone think this movie would be scary after seeing a trailer for it? It doesn't look like a scary movie at all from the trailers, so why expect it to be?

I thought the trailer looked rahter scary. It wasn't nearly as scary as I expected. However, I thought the ending was kind of retarded.

I thought it was good. Very well acted. It kinda drug a bit late middle time frame but it wrapped up well which made up for the slow part. I was 95% sure of what the big secret was right after they got on the island and the meet Kingsley's character for the first time. Didn't ruin it for me though.

LTTP, but just Netflixed it.

Talk about a ****.

Enjoyed it overall, but the direction of the movie lost its way at some points. Seems like it could have been edited/tightened up a bit. Visually very impressive, with great music. Great performances and writing throughout.

So, to those whom have seen it, let me see if I got the story straight (needless to say spoiler central ahoy):
Spoiler:
Leo's character thought he was a US Marshall investigating the going ons at Shutter Island, because he believed that there were secret Nazi experiments afoot.

BUT, as it turns out, he only WAS once a US Marshall, but was committed to Shutter Island as a patient because he murdered his insane wife after she drowned their three children. And he went crazy himself due to guilt, constructing this whole war hero fantasy, where his murdered family were represented by murdered Jews.

The meat of the move was the powers that be at Shutter Island aiding Leo in playing out his fantasy (constructing characters the whole way) in hopes that it would regress him back to his true state.

The true purpose of Shutter Island was actually benign, and was meant to rehabilitate mental patients.

Unfortunately, Leo couldn't be saved, and so he was lobotomized.
