I know there are a lot of BSG fans on this board but I haven't seen any posts on this series yet. Personally I feel like the series lacks direction and is not at all what I expected. It feels more like a social commentary mixed up with The Sopranos.

Thoughts?

I'm actually really glad it's not what I expected. So far my favorite part is the Zoe/Cylon hybrid, and they way they portray that on-screen. It's definitely still looking for it's own footing and solid identity, but I think it's doing alright so far.

John and I are enjoying it overall - thought it was great that you get to see Adama as the child of a mobbed up family learning the ropes lol

and yeah, the way they are doing the Zoe/Cylon scenes is sweet :)

I haven't made up my mind, yet. I can overlook the more ridiculous plot mechanics (resurrecting someone's entire memory and personality from google results? Riiiiight), but I'm kind of ambivalent for other reasons. The timeline feels way too compressed, for one. It doesn't seem right that the entire invention of, rebellion, disappearance, reappearance, second conflict, and final peace with the cylons should all have occurred within one human lifetime.

It's also more than a bit too convenient that Adama happens to be right in the middle of every single one of those things. If you watched BSG closely, you might recall that Adama was also (possibly) indirectly responsible for starting the 2nd Cylon war. As much as I liked his character and Edward James Olmos's portrayal of it, I think Caprica would have been more interesting and more plausible if they had ditched that ham-fisted tie-in to BSG.

That said, it delivers more of what you'd expect from BSG, and that's not a bad thing. Nothing I've said makes it unwatchable, by any means, it just kind of rankles.

I really like this show.

I'm also watching Battlestar Galactica... about halfway through.
