Stunning game. I can't stand Vanille's voice though. What kind of weird accent is that?

Her accent came off to me as sort of Australian. I don't find it as grating as most when she's just talking but her battle comments are going to get on my nerves.

"Take that!" - piercing high voice *Shudder*

According to Wikipedia, Vanille's voice actress is Australian.

Those of you who are playing, who perhaps think it may be too easy... wait until you hit chapter 11. Gran Pulse, the place where exploration opens up and you take lots of dirt naps.

I'm in chapter 11 and I have around 30k. I honestly haven't bought anything except maybe 5 phoenix downs so far.

You want money, farm guards you find for incentive/credit chips.

I wouldn't mind Vanille's accent if it would just be consistent. Half the time she sounds like a generic midwestern US accent, half the time New Zealand...

So far I don't mind Vanille's voice. I like her a lot better than Hope.

I finished chapter 7 last night. I didn't like chapter 5 because Lightning and Hope were too annoyingly angsty. Chapter 6 was good because I liked the music and I liked the character interactions and character development of Sahz and Vanille. Chapter 7 was great because of epic cinematic cutscene, plus the revelations and character development was great all around.

I can't quite put my finger on why, but every time I see Sahz, I laugh my *** off and I can't stop laughing until I leave my brother's room. I haven't played yet because he still isn't finished with it.

I picked this up last night, and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I didn't think I would, given the "automation" of the combat, but after having played for six hours or so, I have to say that I really love this combat system...it's fun and fast-pasted and just a really clean mechanism.

The graphics are, of course, gorgeous, the gameplay is easier to learn and enjoyable to master, and literally the one and only downside I've seen in the game is Hope...who both Phe and I agree to be the second most annoying video game character of all time.

That would be Navi, from The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

EDGE magazine gave it a 5/10, and there are meltdowns on the NeoGAF forums.

I've never really cared for the FF series as a whole, but I hear many are upset because they changed the formula so much?

The combat may be a little TOO streamlined for me. I was grinding out some crystal points earlier in chapter 11 get up and give my cat an insulin shot. I asked my wife to do it while I was chasing the cat around the house and when she said "but I don't know how to play it" I said "It's easy. Just hit X to win".

Well, having completed the "Traintrack" chapter, the "As the Crow Flies" chapter, the "Bobsled Course" chapter, etc...I've been struggling to keep myself playing hit, hoping the game does get better at the 15ish hour mark or whatever I keep hearing.

Sheesh, the game just *drags*

The baddies ramped up in difficulty once I reached Gran Pulse.

That picture reminds me of why most heroic awards are given posthumously.

I gotta say, nothing is more rewarding in that game than Snow in the commando role. Watching him punch some dude 100 feet in the air as a finisher and then yell "Did you see that?!" hasn't ceased to make me laugh every time.

The characters aren't bugging me that much. Lightning finally softened up. Hope finally learned how to talk. I really dig it.

I'm still having trouble trying to figure out what I should buy/sell/upgrade/dismantle. I've only bought one item so far (just had Fang join up) and am hoarding my cash. I'm having trouble finding value in the Sentinel role. I still have to fiddle with that some more. Synergist in a two-man team is proving to be a waste of time.

Scree,
Sent is generally useless until you start fighting harder monsters in chapter 11 and onwards. On some harder fights, I generally start with Comm/Sent/Syn for some damage/debuffs, then I ATB cancel in and out of Tri-Disaster (3x ravager) until I get a good chain, then usually go onward from there with something like Com/Rav/Med.

I'm in grind-mode right now though, 3x Commanders farming a couple spots for about 6k CP/min.

Maybe its because I've been out of the FF games for so long but I like the combat system. I find myself strategizing a lot more with the paradigms. Switching mid-turn, etc.

That said, it is a huge pain in the *** to get gil, equipment and cps. I think I am through Chapter 12 or 13 (The Ark).

What is that godawful noise Vanille makes in combat that sounds like the three stooges?

So what is it about the first hit of a Commando that makes the stagger gauge not drop as quickly? It seems in a 2-man group, if I have them both be Ravagers, the gauge drops to nothing before the next person attacks. If I have a commando stick em one time, the gauge loses power at like 1/4 the rate.

The Powerchain ability.

Hopwin,
It's easy to farm cp/gil once you hit chapter 11. It's harder to do both well at the same time, though. If you're looking to get upgrade materials, the mark from cieth mission 7 (in some city ruins, flying mob) always rewards you with 5x bomb cores and has a chance to drop items that sell for like 10-40k gil.
