I have more patience than God and I finally have had it and flipped on them.

Boy i hate cocky kids some days. Gone are the good old days of respect for adults.

If i ever spoke to an adult the way some of these kids talk to us, i would have had belt marks for a year.

I feel for you Oonagh. I can't imagine being around that age group all day and in a position of authority...ugh! Kudos to you for doing it.
I'm guessing there is a way (without getting yourself in trouble) to sort of snap and get them to pay attention at least until the shock wears off that you raised your voice or slammed a big textbook down on your desk, eh?

The problem with shock methods is that the kids get used to them and they stop being effective. So, you use them sparingly and hope they don't let their younger siblings in on the methods.

Personally, install armored guard towers with snipers with live ammunition, in every classroom. Have stock letters included in the Welcome to School packets showing what the real form letters the school sends out are like. Prominently feature the "we regret to inform you that Johnny crossed the line in class and will not be coming home anymore. You may pick up his remains at the County Coroners office" letter.

I hardly ever get upset so to the majority of the kids it is a shock factor. Just once in awhile the attitudes of the kids in general can be very upsetting we blame it on the syndrome we call
