I keep thinking this is a thread about Firefly.

I was hoping that, too.

I don't understand the whole "hate the snitch" thing.

If someone continues to do something that is clearly illegal, they should be reported.

Browncoat = Firefly Universe.

Rodahn, right there with you, especially if it involves physical or emotional harm to others. Tax cheaters I'm not so vehement about.

We're a snitch culture at this point, so why not turn people in.

As to why it's looked down upon? Because betrayal is bad, from a general ethical and moral standpoint. In order to have knowledge of the crime (required to snitch in the first place) you generally have to know the criminal. Thus, snitching requires turning in someone you know, and (from a certain point of view) betraying them.

I'd say if you betray a noble, just cause then I could understand the stigma. But ratting out a criminal doing something counter-productive should be promoted.

But yeah, I see what you are saying from a general point of view.

If the noble commits a crime why would they be anything but a criminal? Doubly so, because they first betrayed the commoners by involving themselves in the criminal activity. The stigma, to me, in betraying someone I know would be immensely greater than someone with a title I've never met.

Well, what I mean is, if you undermine a noble cause (like turn over the plans to do mass amounts of good to a rival, corrupt entity of some sort with the intent to profit from the ensuing interruption), then your snitching should be ridiculed.

Ahhh, that makes much more sense.

I read that as:
I'd say if you betray a noble, just [be]cause then I could understand the stigma. :lol:
